I can;t hang anything at my reception sight, but still want to decorate. I would love to do so without paying $750 for pipe and draping any ideas?
The bottom third of the room is woodenpaneling and the third is cream paint.
Any ideas would be helpful!
Our colors purple, green and pink, and it is a summer wedding. Ceremony on the beach, reception in a local Elk’s hall.

I wish I could…I had several venues where they wouldn’t let me decorate..so I looked elsewhere = I’m not sure what type of decorations you’d like. You could maybe set up some inexpensive PVC piping to “hang” things over your head table or whatever. Kinda depends. I avoided the issue, lol.

We can’t hang anything on the walls at our venue either. We’re focusing on table decorations/flowers. Are you wanting to cover the walls? I would just decorate where you can, which will take the focus off of the walls.

The first thing I would do is buy some 3M Command Hooks and set up a meeting with them to demonstrate that they can be used on any surface with no damage when they are removed.
I would buy a couple and practice at home so you look like you know what you are doing. I would even take a board that was 1/2 painted and 1/2 wallpaper for the demo.
If they have a change of heart- problem solved.
If they won’t change their policy then you have to focus on what you can do.
For a backdrop for the head table if you are having one, you could get lattice panels from the home store, or old doors that you can attach to a base.
you could also use those large round helium balloons behind the head table- just hang weights from the balloons heavy enough to keep the balloons at the height you want
You can also use bunches of helium balloons with Balloominators inside. They are little lights that are inserted inside the balloons when they are inflated. You twist them one way to flash, the other way for a steady light.
If you want to hang bunting or lights, you can get patio umbrella bases, insert a long metal pole (pipe)and use that to hang the bunting or lights
You can use real or artificial plants, branches or trees to give height and fill in spaces.

I’m in a similar boat- Elks lodge near the ocean- no tape, etc. The wedding coordinator said it was fine to use hooks on the ceiling- it has the kind of pop up ceiling tiles with metal bracing- That’s how I plan to hang paper lanterns.
Instead of draping, try uplighting- this might be out of your budget, but you can pick up a set of cheap ones for around 200 I think, & you can buy gels in whatever color you need. Uplighting is very easy to set up.
Also, you can make your own posts using home depot materials- you can use these to string lights around, or hang things:
This is my backup plan for chinese lanterns.

Yeah Dani, that’s what we’re doing. We talked with them and as long as we use the hooks that are specifially for those pop up ceiling tiles, they are fine with that…but we had to ask specifically. You can get them at any hardware store, they latch onto the metal frame of the ceiling and come off with no damage. That’s how we’re hanging ours.

julies1949: great ideas!!! My venue has an deck wih an awning where the reception is held and they will no longer allow brides to place decor hanging from the awning poles Because they have rope lights on them and they’ve been damaged in the past. I like the umbrella base idea and he balloons! Thanks!
