ok guys – we’re down to the wire here…17 days AND COUNTING…so last friday was my “final” dress fitting and my bustle was SUPPOSED to be done. granted – yes, my dress is a david’s bridal dress – and I’ve personally never had any issues with them – they were great when I bought it as well as bridesmaid dresses in the past…
so I get there – and while the actual alterations were done and it fits AWESOME – the EXPENSIVE bustle wasn’t even started!!! the seamster (he’s a guy – is that the right word?) was extremely apologetic and said people had quit and/or were sick and they were (obviously, it’s june) VERY backed up…so he promised to take care of the dress himself – that no one else would do it and it would be ready on Friday June 18. That is 8 – yes E.I.G.H.T. days before my wedding.
I know they’ll be professional and have it done – but of course part of me is panicking just slightly…I’m NOT a bridezilla type at all – but this could turn me into one.
Anyone else had problems getting their dress til DAYS before?

I had three dresses due to various issues and I picked up two of them from alterations 3 days before the wedding! I was trying not to freak out because I already had Dress1 as a backup. They both had slight alterations issues but because I’d run out of time there was nothing I could do. I ended up wearing one of them and despite some ill fitting around the boobs and it almost falling during our dance, it worked out. I enjoy my pictures very much. So even if it’s not 100% perfect, things have a way of working out on that day.
Compared to my situation 8 days is plenty of time, so don’t worry, you’ll have your dress in time and I’m sure it will look wonderful!

I just picked up my dress yesterday and my wedding is Friday. Everything was fine. My seamstress was really busy so she pushed things back a bit. I wouldn’t worry about it. They probably deal with this all the time.

I’m not picking my dress up until Thursday and my wedding is Saturday! I wouldn’t worry about this too much.

- Wedding: June 2010 - Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!
My final fitting is going to be on the 10th, and I’ll probably pick it up only a few days before the wedding. Less time with me = less time I can screw it up. (Wedding’s on the 19th)

I had the opposite problem – I had my final alterations done too long BEFORE the wedding. I have the same wedding date as you, and I decided on a whim to try it on the other day, and its too big! I had lost weight between picking up my dress and trying it on a month later. My bridal shop is 3 hours away, so I scrambled to find a freelance seamstress online, begged her to fit me in on short notice, and am getting it taken in. I pick it up next Tuesday a mere 12 hours before I’m due on a flight to head out to my hometown, where I’m getting married.
All that to say – I feel for ya!
