I was going to have a seamstress sew my dress, but the quote was $400, and I had to purchase my own fabric.  The quote did not include beading or embroidery.

But for $230, I got an awesome dress from China with beading and embroidery.  I have to pay about $100 for alterations (my body is abnormal), but still, way cheaper than a seamstress.

This is a great post. I’m considering getting a china dress cause my top 3 dresses are 1/3 my wedding budget, I’m considering going to a seamstress but the dress I like might be a bit too elaborate so I’m as scared of a seamstress as I am of China.

I must admit reading your post I’m compelled to look more at local seamtress, maybe I’ll get lucky.

I’m having a sort of replica dress made, also by a local dressmaker. I’m not saving much money over a standard bridal dress.

I couldn’t, however, afford the £20-30k plus to have the original designer recreate the dress (which was originally made over six years ago).

I am not great on currency conversion but I think that the 200 british would still be too much USD for me, so I am sticking with my China DressilyMe plan. Beautiful dresses though!

@Mrs. Myrtle Beach: It’s never a direct translation in terms of prices. Quite often things are the same price in pounds as they would be in dollars rather than the direct exchange rate.

@Vintage-me: Ah. Twice what mine is gonna end up costing me, even shipped with the extras. Nope, wouldn’t do it. That’s just me, I am cheap like that. LOL

Great idea!  I love that bridesmaid dress, too, by the way.
