Did anyone see this???
My husband told me about this when I got home from work and I didn’t believe him. But after googling it sadly appears to be true.
This ESPN commentator Rob Parker is critiquing an African American man, the quaterback of the Washington Redskins Robert Griffin III, for being insufficiently black.
He said, on national freaking television, that “he’s not one of us” and is possibly a “cornball brother” because “we all know he has a white fiancee.”
He went on to note that because he wears braids, that does help make him more black.
The sad thing is this commentator is not some old drooling guy who could be expected to have a problem with interracial marriage. He is relatively young looking.
here it is from the Huff Post.
Man oh man.

@allyfally: supposedly ESPN is “thinking” about their options. I’m sorry but no deep consideration is required. These are not the kind of beliefs that can be changed overnight in a come-to-Jesus moment, he needs to be terminated so he will have the free time available to educate himself and grow his heart!!!!

I’m so sick of this shit.
I cannot count the number of times someone has tried to tell me that I’m “not that black” because I happened to fall in love with a white man.
STFU AND GET OFF THE AIR.

@Woodstock: Exactly! There would be a huge uproar if a white man on tv said something about a guy being less white for marrying a black woman. Pisses me off.

I hope he’s fired. What a terrible comment.

What amazes me is the other people on the discussion panel didn’t immediately address this. The one guy said “I’m uncomfortable with where we just went with this” or something like that. Uncomfortable? Yeah. Really.
