- Wedding: July 2010
My fiancé and I are getting married on July 4th 2010 in Chicago. We have had a long engagement so we have been very fortunate in booking the vendors that we wanted very early on. Because our wedding is on a holiday weekend, it was important to us to make sure our guests feel like they were not missing out on any of the festivities. Because the Chicago fireworks are on the 3rd (and the City of Chicago website that I’ve been looking at since 2008 said this as well) we booked a rehearsal dinner that had the feel of a 4th of July bbq right near where the fireworks are launched from and timed it all to end for the show. We booked hotel rooms in the city for our family who live in the suburbs so they could stay up late watching and celebrating and not have to worry about the drive home. Then, because no fireworks are launched on the 4th, for our actual wedding we chose a beautiful venue that has no views of the city but instead looks out onto a secluded courtyard. We sent off the save the dates explaining about the fireworks being on the 3rd and we finished designed invitations with insert info on seeing them etc.
Well today and the stupid city announces they are moving the fireworks to a different launch location and to the 4th. The two things I was most looking forward to were our ceremony and just relaxing with family and friends and watching the show. I feel bad for mistakenly formally giving our guests misinformation and more than that, I am just so incredibly upset about this turn of events. Sorry to rant, all of this info just came to me at the end of a long day so I think I’m just super emotional right now… ugh…
oh, and as a side note, the city banned sparklers two years ago so we can’t even do those. grr.
