Fiance wants to do “Your love amazes me” by John Barry (a traditional country singer). I’m not really feeling it. The lyrics are beautiful, but I have a few issues with the song. First, I don’t really like John Barry. Second, I don’t want such a traditional first dance song. Third, I’ve found soooo many other country songs that fit our relationship and sound beautiful (to the point of tears!!!).
So, here’s the problem and where I could use some advice from the bees. Fiance really wants this song for our first dance. Having this song is his only request. It means so much to him! He used another John Barry song, “will you marry me” , when he proposed. If that gives you an idea of how much he loves John Barry’s love songs.
He played “your love amazes me” about a week ago and I told him I liked it. After thinking about it for a while, I decided to ask him if we could choose a song together. He was very offended. He has conceded to choose another song, but I can tell he is really hurt by me not wanting his original choice. I know this seems like such a small issue, but the first dance holds a lot of meaning for him.
So, how should I handle this? What do I say to him to fix the situation? Should I stick with this song and grow to love it?
As a side note, we both love country music (and the same artists-except john barry), so it wouldn’t be impossible to agree on another song.
