Is this common? My girlfriend is due July 2nd and goes in next Monday for her a/s and her OB told her not to eat or drink anything but water at all that day before the ultrasound, but her ultrasound isn’t until 1:30 in the afternoon and she’s freaking out. I told her to just reschedule for earlier if she can. But I was wondering how common that is. Personally, I’ver never been told not to eat or drink as have any of my other mommy friends except for this girlfriend & she said they’ve told her not to eat for ever ultrasound so far. I know you’re not supposed to eat the day of your GD test, I guess I’ve just never heard of not eating before an ultrasound.

I’m 22 weeks and I’ve never been asked not to eat at any of my 3 ultrasound to date. I’ve also been told you don’t need to fast for your GD test unless you’re doing the 3 hour test. The one hour challenge is suppose to be done under normal conditions (ie. normal breakfast) but maybe each doctor has different directives for this?

I’ve never been asked to fast for an u/s. Not with this pregnancy or my first. I haven’t heard of anyone having to fast for one.

Not a mom yet, but I’ve usually heard the opposite, like people recommending that you drink OJ or eat something sugary before the u/s to get the baby to move around. Very strange.

Never heard of this. I have had 4 this pregnancy and was supposed to go in with a full bladder ( this pushes baby up for she’s more visible). My appointments were all 3 pm or later so I was always eating before. I’d get her to call her doc or the ultrasound place to clarify

thats strange maybe that do that so that baby is not hopped up on sugar lol. but they never asked me not to eat before one. in fact they told me the opposite to get the baby moving.

I’m glad I’m not nuts! I’ve never heard this before, I can’t really figure out why they would tell her that.

I’ve never heard of this either. I ate befrore my ultrasounds and never had any issues. I know, depending on the equipment they use, some places will ask that you drink a specific amount of water beforehand. Others require an empty bladder. But this is definitely the first I’ve heard about not eating prior to an ultrasound!

How weird. I’ve done 3 scans (tummy scans, not intra vaginal) so far at 8, 12 and 16 weeks and never heard that I couldn’t eat beforehand. For the first two yes that had to drink 2glasses of water before. But that’s it. It may have something to do specific with her. I’d just follow the doctors advice. They may know something we don’t. I have heard that sweets make the bun move more thus that’s not great cos in the case of measuring you need the baby to be more still.

Is she also getting lab work done? Thats the only thing I could think of is if she needs to have fasting labs done.
