Is there a history of family “dropping in” uninvited to weddings? If not, I wouldn’t worry about it. Most people realize that you only plan for who you’re expecting. If there is a history of this happening, start spreading the word via Future Mother-In-Law and others that due to the size of the venue you don’t won’t have any extra space for surprise guests and it’s very important that everyone RSVP on time, otherwise there might not be room for them.

Have your invitations gone out yet? If not, make sure you write something on the RSVP’s to the extent of __ of 2 guests will be attending.  Or if it’s a family __ of 5 guests will be attending.  That way your guests know ahead of time you’re guest list is limited to the number on the card. I think generally speaking, most people know this and will adhere to who’s invited. Unless, like Goldilocks mentioned there is some family history, which like she mentioned you should get the word out now about your guest limit.  It seems reasonable.
