Last night as I was getting ready for bed, I noticed pink staining when I wiped. I freaked out, but figured it was light and there wasn’t much I could do about it at that point so I went to bed. When I was up in the middle of the night to pee, I checked and all was clear. I thought I’d be all set but once I was up and about in the morning, my spotting turned dark brown. Ew. I was debating whether I should call my Ob’s office (again) and risk sounding paranoid and was leaning towards waiting things out a little when the spotting turned bright red.
I immediately called, they had me right in and at what I thought was 6 weeks pregnant. I had blood work and my first internal ultrasound done. While doing the ultrasound, she sounded a bit perplexed from the minute we started. When all was said and done, all we saw was the yolk sac and she seems to think I must be more like 4+weeks instead of 6. I wanted my husband to be there so badly but he’s away M-F with work and I can’t even talk to him save for one allotted 15 minute phone call per day.
So now I have to wait on the results of my blood work (which I’m told will give us a better date on the pregnancy), don’t know why I’m spotting and can’t even talk to my husband about it until late this evening. Its just confusing and what I hoped would be a reassuring appointment kind of has me frazzled. Everyone there was amazing, truly, but I was hoping for the reassurance that its likely normal, but they seem to be pretty cautious and take this kind of stuff pretty seriously until all the testing is done. (Which rationally I know is a good thing that I wont be brushed off, but ahh).
Sorry… this is more of a vent than anything else… I’m just freaked out and without my husband or family/friends (we haven’t shared the news yet) to talk to about it I’m going a little nutsy.

It could just mean your cycle was a bit longer this month. I went in at what I thought was close to 9 weeks and after the ultrasound they dated me at just over 7 weeks. When I had my 20 week ultrasound she was growing on track with how she should be growing if I was 7 weeks at the first ultrasound so all has been fine. They didn’t seem too worried during the first ultrasound, just said oh you must have ovulated later. I didn’t have bleeding during pregnancy but I know other ladies have, you might want to ease up on the running or talk to your doctor a bit and do some less impact exercise until it stops.

My cycles aren’t overly regular so I’m sure that’s the case. It feels so weird thinking I was at the heart-beat and beyond stage, but have really only just entered the embryonic stage. Mind you, I’m happy to be however far along they tell me so long as things are healthy!
At this point, I’m definitely going to hold out on running until I can discuss it with my doctor. I had been running yesterday and worried whether or not it had anything to do with my spotting.

For the record, the doctors go by the first day of your LMP (last menstrual period). Then estimate when you ovulated by a forumla. Most people ovulate around day 14 (I think). THAT is what they go by.
They had my daughter’s date off by a week or more. She was a preemie and there was an argument about her being 4 weeks or 5 weeks premature due to the fact that the dr’s date said one thing, and the fact she had no eyebrows, eyelashes, or hair pointed towards a different date. (They also got my son’s date wrong… but he was a week LATE, the little brat, 😉 lol)
So, yes, you could be 9 weeks or you could be around 4 weeks. Without knowing exactly when you ovulated, it’s impossible to tell. Unfortunately. Doctors are not infallable, especially when it comes to the human body.
Hope things clear up and everything goes smoothly for you from here on out!!! and congrats!!!!!!!

@soon2bmrs.D: Thank you, its reassuring to hear of people who’ve experienced something similar. Although I’m sorry you had to go through having your Doctor tell you you’d misscarried. I can’t imagine that.
I haven’t had cramping but I’ve had spotting that sounds pretty much exactly like yours. This afternoon its the dark, dark brown and the heaviest its been. I’m hoping maybe its a little heavier just because of the internal ultrasound. Trying to stay positive and wait to hear back from my doctor before I go too crazy.
