So, my fiance bought his suit from Men’s Wearhouse last week, and it took a week to do the alterations. We went last night to pick it up. He tried it on. I hate it. I was there when he picked it out, and it looked very nice but obviously had to be taken in. I was there when the tailor was going over what she was going to do for it. It all sounded good. The only thing that gave me reservations was that the pants are pleated, which I don’t like, but he was gung-ho about it, so I let it go. It’s his suit, after all.
Now, I know pleated pants are supposed to be roomy, but these look huge on him. To the point of looking sloppy. And the jacket, while it looks nice from the front, from the back, it looks like there’s an awful lot of extra fabric bunched up where the shoulder meets the sleeve. I pointed it out, and the person helping us said if it was taken in any more, he wouldn’t be able to move his arms. But is it normal for there to be extra fabric there? Shouldn’t it be relatively flat through the shoulders?
So we took the suit and left. But I just can’t shake the feeling that they screwed up. I feel like maybe they sold him something that was too large (they measured him and told him the size) and tried to take it in too much. But I know nothing about suits, so I just don’t know.
He’s going to try it on for his mom and dad tomorrow and see what they think about it. Then we’ll go from there on whether or not we try to get them to do further alterations or give him a new suit that fits him properly. Or maybe they’ll tell me I’m crazy and it looks great.
Is there anyone who knows anything about suits that can give me any advice on this situation? I’m an obsesser and can’t stop obsessing!!!
