My fiance’s parents flew out to visit us last week, so we decided to go dress shopping so his Mom could help me pick my dress. We get to the boutique and they had us pick out dresses that we liked. This surprised me because on Say Yes To The Dress, they HATE when the entourage goes around the shop and does this. However, I enjoyed being able to look at the dresses, so we picked out a good selection.
The first dress that I tried on looked almost exactly like a dress I saw online and loved. It was all lace, had cap sleeves, and a fit and flare silhouette. However, I didn’t love this dress I just liked it, so I decided to try on more dresses.
The second dress had the same shape and sleeves as the first dress, but it had much more detail. It had beading along the front and back, an illusion neckline, lace sleeves, and a detachable train. Yes you read right, a detachable train! That’s my favorite part about the dress. However, I still didn’t get the feeling that every bride dreams of. I wasn’t in love with this dress… As for my entourage, they were in tears when they saw me. Including my soon to be Mother in law.
I continued to try on more dresses and even though I had a lot to choose from, the second was still my favorite. I tried on the second dress again and I liked it a little more this time. We left the shop and decided to think about it before we made the purchase. Later that night my Grandparents called me and had offered to buy me that dress because they loved it so much. I contacted the shop and scheduled an appointment to try on the dress again and purchase it this Sunday.
With all of this being said, has anyone learned to love their dress? After all the other dresses I’ve tried on, I just don’t think I’ll get that feeling. Maybe my wedding dress is just something that I’ll slowly fall in love with. And honestly, the fact that my Grandparents and Mother in law love the dress so much makes me not care as much about my insecurities. The one thing that I do love about this dress is that it would be sentimental because they were a part of picking it and were able to take the place of my Mom who passed away 2 years ago.

This dress looks amazing and the train….wow!

1. That dress is GORGEOUS
2. I also walked out on my dress the first time (similar lace and tulle skirt to yours actually!). I tried it on for fun becuase it was pretty but it wasn’t what I was looking for. The more I looked at the style I had in mind and the more dresses I tried on I realized that nothing compared to MY dress. I tried on a few more that were similar and then went back to try the favorite on again and just decided that nothing was ever going to beat it. THAT was my dress, and I didn’t really want to take it off. There was no magic moment, no tears, no butterflies and it did have to grow on me but in the end, that was it, I was ready to stop looking.

You look like a doll in this dress, so pretty. I also love what you said about these special women helping you pick it. To me, that’s more important than a tv idea of “it”, and it seems a lot more real.
You look beautiful and bridal, I say yes to your dress:-)

It’s very beautiufl! But you have so much time to shop still! If you have any doubts, keep shopping around and then wait to make your decision until you feel like you’ve exhausted the possibiltiies. And try on lots of styles too – even things you think you won’t like; you just never know what might look amazing! Then when you finally make a decision, you’ll know for sure that it’s the right choice.

That dress is stunning! It’s one of the most beautiful I’ve seen, and let me tell you, I’ve looked around a lot.
That said, if you have a lot of time, there’s no harm in looking. You’ll probably try on dresses and think “well, it’s nice but it doesn’t compare to that second dress” and then you’ll know it’s the perfect one. (Speaking from experience. I bought a dress on impulse because it looked so good on me, but I’m second guessing it a bit since I’m one to usually take a long time to make a decision, so I’ve been looking at other dresses just in case but nothing really comes close to my dress.)

Are you a crazy person because that dress is flawless, it’s one of the most beautiful dresses I’ve ever seen. But yes, lemme tell you that I never LOVED loved the dress until literally my wedding day. But I was so happy on my wedding day that I put the dress on and felt more beautiful than I’ve ever felt. So yeah, I kinda learned to love my dress

The dress is stunning!! If you don’t love it, though, I’d say keep looking. Maybe you can try to shop with them again so it can still be sentimental? even if they love it, I’m sure they’d want you to love it equally!

I agree, the dress is absolutely GORGEOUS and so are YOU! That being said, all that matters is how you feel about it. Do you feel beautiful and comfortable in it? Can you see yourself walking down the aisle in it?
Not everyone gets that freaking out, crying, feeling weak in the knees reaction to a piece of clothing. I sure didn’t. I can’t picture myself EVER being all gah-gah over ANY material object. Maybe thats how you are too?

Wow! Thank you everyone for your kind words! I feel a lot better now. I think I just have a scewed idea of how I should feel when I find the dress just from seeing it on tv so many times. It’s so reassuring to hear that many of you had positive experiences after not being in love with your dress initially.

I’m surprised you don’t love it…my sentiments are the same as everyone elses. Gorgeous! Great combination of pretty, delicate, unique, stunning. You look great in it!

The dress is beautiful & you look stunning in it!
I purchased my dress on 4/13 & the next day I started questioning it because I kept looking at other dresses online wondering if I made the right decision. After that day, I stopped looking at other dresses and I’ve started loving my dress more & more since I didn’t have that original ‘I love this dress’ moment.
I’m not sure if you’ll start to feel the way I did…but you truly look great in that dress!
