Sorry if this is long… OK, we’reing having a Destination Wedding and Fiance is taking his 2 brothers and a friend. I am taking my daughter, my sister and a friend. 3 each. We’re taking exactly who we want to take.
Here is the problem. I have two friends who consider me their “best friend” and I am only taking one. The one I am taking has known me longest, we e-mail with each other every day, she was there when I got married in 1997, she was beside me through my divorce and she’s been a steady voice of reason throughout my current relationship with Fiance. She’s a serious, but fun person.
My other friend is a dingy bartender, but she is a lot of fun. We see each other more than I see friend #1. Friend #2 and I do theatre together, we go out together, we go to concerts together etc. But lately I’ve been noticing some very selfish tendancies from her and I must say I’m falling less and less “in friend” with her.
Friend #2 has always been jealous of the friendship I have with friend #1. She thinks “I’m more fun, you should like me better.” (again, selfish tendancies). I haven’t told friend #2 that I’m taking friend #1 for the Destination Wedding. Friend #2 has 3 other friends and a brother getting married this summer, so even if I desperately wanted her to go, I doubt she could afford the time off.
We’re having a nice back yard BBQ when we return for our friends and family that were not able to go to the Destination Wedding. Friend #2 has already hinted that she wants to throw showers and bachelorette parties for me, etc. My daughter is my one and only attendant and she’s only 17. But I’d think if anyone would do those things it would be my sister and friend going to the wedding.
I’d like to at least give friend #2 some sort of “official” job or title or something for the reception so that she feels a little more special than the rest of the guests. But I have no idea what I should have her do. Cut cake? It is a backyard BBQ, so it isn’t like there will be many other jobs to be done.
