So… every once and awhile I get that itch to dye my hair a different color. Right now… I am tired of being blonde and want to dye it brown. I got a box of Feria Crystal Brown. It looks okay, not exciting, but okay. I feel like I could have gone a bit darker but I was hesitant. The roots have a little brassiness to them that I am not liking. Naturally, I have dirty blonde hair. I am pretty pale and have blue eyes. My hair grabs warm tones like crazy and just looks awful, so I try to stick to cooler shades. This one said “Natural” which I guess wasn’t a good idea. What product and color would you ladies recommend? If you suggest going to a salon…what color should I ask for? Thanks!

@Cady: I don’t think you need to suggest a color. If you go to a salon and tell her what you intended to do she can help you fix the brassiness and work out a color system that works for your tones. The best thing to do if your hair naturally goes to warm tones – is to work with them – not against. Ask her if there is a few warm browns she can show you that would work well – so you can pick.

@suburbian: Thanks! I will keep that in mind. I guess I am just freaked out about it because I had a horrible experience once where she insisted on adding warm tones and it turned really orange. I was there for awhile so she could try and fix it. I ended up just going somewhere else so they could pull the orange out.. I did dye it red once and it looked great but it faded fast and I can’t keep up with it. I do think the added color would look great…I did like a box of chestnut brown that I saw…but I grabbed the light brown instead.

What color was your hair when you were younger ? maybe go back to that if it was darker and add low and high lights ( get it done at a salon that is known and trusted to do good color work) …
I feel like sometimes some women want to change hair color and dont put into consideration color theory and how that can change your look drastically sometimes not for the good because it may not work with your skin tone, under tone , eye color etc … def get a consultation.
Good Luck ! 🙂

A very light blonde when I was little that darkened to a dirty blonde as I got older. I do get a full weave sometimes but I just love dark hair. I guess I need to get over it lol. I will see about getting a consultation! Was hoping for a good do it yourself product but I guess its not out there!

@Cady: oh wow ok … i would still go to a salon then b/c you dont want to go over board with adding color at home then you get more disappointed and still have to go to a salon to fix it …

@Cady: I agree with what @suburbian: said.
also, be sure you tell the stylist you used Feria. different dyes have different chemicals, and sometimes they can have reactions with each other.

Reds always fade faster. I natural natural auburn color enhanced with color and highlights and go every eight weeD’s. I can definitely tell its fading by six weeks though. I am very particular about my color and wanted something natural looking since I am an attorney. My stylist/colorist is amazing and has gotten my color perfect every time, even when I make small changes from time to time (I get bored!).
Ask people you work with or friends whose hair you like who does their hair. That’s a good way to find a reputable stylist that will give you what you are looking for. I rave about my stylist and tell anyone who asks her info. It can get pricey though. I’m paying $130 every 8 weeks for cut, color and highlights. it’s my splurge though!
