Eh let’s put this in perspective.  The deletion policy is there to protect posters from putting out too much personal information or saying things that they regret.

Posters using it because they don’t agree with the opinions are using it for the wrong reason.  What they should be doing is asking for the thread to be closed.

I think newer people may not realize how touchy some subjects are here. They come to vent and then get torn apart and want to start over. Nothing wrong there.

I often start to post and stop because I am afraid of the mean spirited couple of posters who always make certain types of threads ugly.

why is everyone so bent out of shape about it? sounds more like people are just mad that they can’t add their two cents to the situation.

the few threads that I have seen deleted were because of trolling and snark fests.

@beemo:  I don’t think that many people are mad about it.

It’s similar to the frustration I feel when I type out a post and there’s a glitch so it’s lost.  I think it’s fairly typical to feel frustrated in a situation like that.

People write responses for them to be posted and usually also so they are hopefully read.  If our responses were never posted I bet there would be very few that were actually written!  Smile

I deleted a post I wrote a couple of days ago where I went on a rant about a family member. I’ll be honest and say I didn’t like a lot of the responses, but either way they didn’t really sway my feelings so that didn’t matter much to me.  I actually deleted it because I use this username on other forums/websites and members of my family would recognize it. I didn’t want someone in my immediate family to come across the post one day and get offended. Believe it or not one of my stepsisters once posted on a website and my mother came across it and easily identified her! Her username involved her first name (an uncommon name) and the circumstances described in her post were too similar to our family to be anyone else. What are the chances of that?! When I created my Bee profile I didn’t really feel like I needed a super secret username so I didn’t try to disguise myself Undecided Plus a picture of Fiance and I is my avatar!

@beemo:  Snarkiness and trolling are against TOS, so those would be removed by mods anyway. People are deleting because they dislike what they’re hearing.

@adoc86:  FYI, if you go to the “support” tab up at the top left, you can request your username to be changed. Each user gets one name change.

@SoupyCat – Good to know! I had considered creating an entirely new profile just for that post, but didn’t feel like going through the trouble of it just for one thread. Changing my username would have been much easier, lol.

this is a free site that is very well designed and maintained. the hosts work hard. sorry, but I’m not going to whine about little things that are out of my control. it’s really not the end of the world.

It’s still a new policy, so I’m sure they’re working out the kinks – I would prefer it if the thread stayed up and it jsut showed that the OP was deleted, I don’t like that it erases the thread completely.

@Wonderstruck:  I think that’s a great idea for those that may have been in the middle of responding, but then would annoy everyone else who opens the thread and doesn’t know what is going on haha!
