Since last night Ive had nausea, diarreah, abdominal cramps, no appetite. It’s been a night and day of this. Ive been living off gingerale and jello. So I take it Im not Pregnant, I just had a bug…right?
Another part of my question is when I do get Pregnant, how do I prevent from getting a cold or food poisening. I know the basics, wash your hands, keep cold food cold and hot food hot, but do you do anything special? I have had a bad luck spree lately. Seems like when I got off the pill Ive been sick alot with colds, bugs, and asthma related things. Can’t I get a break?! 🙁
Thanks for your input Bee’s.

I don’t have much experience with the pregnancy thing, but I’d say if it started that suddently and if you’re having diarrhea, it’s just a bug–as far as I know, diarrhea isn’t a pregnancy “symptom.”
That being said, try to rest up and take it easy. I’ve found that a warm/hot bubble bath helps my sore tummy when I’m sick. 🙂 Hope you feel better soon!
Also, be wary of antibacterial soaps–I’m sure you’ve heard that bacteria can build up a sort of immunity to it, and there are articles about the chemicals in AB soap everywhere, too. Scary stuff!

When I was on chemo and immunsuppressed, I had to be careful with these kind of things:
- Make sure you wash all fruits/veggies REALLY well
- Don’t use condiments on the table at restaurants (ask for individual packets)
- Soft Serve ice cream machines are really dangerous (not cleaning them properly/often enough).
- No sushi/raw meats/etc
I would imagine that these are strict guidelines to follow on a daily basis, but these are the areas that doctors see as dangerous to making people sick.

@statutory= Thanx. I actually took a warm bath before I read this. It really calms me down and soothes my stomach. Im home today again, the bug moved onto a mini chest cold. grrrrrr.
@caszos-Thank you fo you advice. I better wash those fruits and veggies better. I got these peaches from a farm stand. Mayb that was it. Im on the couch again today. I’ll be good by tomm…hopefully. We are wedding photographers so I got to pull through by today.

I wash all my veggies by soaking them in water with vinegar to remove pesticides and bacteria. See http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=14540742
Also, wood cutting boards are better for not retaining bacteria.

While I was living in Asia, I washed all my fruits and veggies with gentle dish soap (and rinsed them with clean water) – don’t know if I would trust American dish soap, but I have heard that they sell special soap for washing fruits and veggies here.
Be especially careful with anything with external seeds, like berries. They’re the hardest to get clean!

This might be Too Much Information but three days before I found out I was preggers I was in the bathroom every ten seconds. (and i wasn’t throwing up). lol. I had eaten a ton a sushi and between four of us we had 5 bottles of wine the night before. Baby didn’t like it. Did you eat anything weird?

I got sick a lot when I was pregnant (couldn’t help it working in the ER!). I even wound up going to the ER myself for gastroenteritis at one point. My asthma also got worse, so I ended up on Pulmicort all winter.
I started carrying purell everywhere and fastidiously avoiding sick people (except at work, where it was unavoidable).
