- Wedding: January 2013
I have just received my photographs back from the photographer, however I would like to hear your opinions about the situation I am currently in.
When we were looking for a wedding photographer, I spent a lot of time browsing through their websites and viewing their portfolios. I had a clear idea of the type of photographer I was looking for. We were also willing to pay extra for a good photographer. Long story short, I got a recommendation from a friend, who told me that they had met with a great photographer who isn’t that expensive and takes great photos. We ended up meeting with him and hiring him. Why? Perhaps because we had a great conversation, he seemed to be professional and down to earth. He was even open for suggestions and told me that I am welcome to sent him examples of photographs I would like for him to take on our wedding day. Regardless, I felt confident in our decision to hire him. Perhaps too confident.
I ended up not sending him any examples of photographs that I liked, even after spending hours on browsing wedding photographers websites for the sole purpose of getting some great examples that I could sent him. I actually thought that he would ‘obviously’ be taking the same sort of shots and in a way I thought that a professional photographer could just feel like it a slap in the face if I sent them photos of other photographers… and in a way I wanted my photos to be a surprise.
Two days after the wedding our photographer uploaded seven pics on facebook, I loved them and was so exited to get the rest! When we did received the rest of our photos I soon realized that the seven pics he uploaded on facebook was the best seven photos out of the seven hundred we received. None of the photos exited me.
Besides that, there was only three photos of the bridal party (that included the bridesmaids and groomsmen) and only three photos of me with my bridesmaids. The photos he took of me getting ready, he did not even take the empty shoe boxes off the bed, since they are in the background of all the photos taken of me getting ready. O yes, he only took one photo of my dress hanging on the hanger, and it’s not even a nice photo.
What bothered me almost the most was that there was no photo of the entrance to our wedding. I spent hours making all the bunting flags, ten rows of bunting flags to be precise. He did not even take one photograph of the entrance with the flags, there was not a single flag in one of his photos!
The other thing that bothered me was that there was no photos of my dress from the back or us walking away from the camera. I thought that this was an obvious photo to take…
I should mention that the day we went to collect our photos he said that he did not edit any photos because me being a graphic designer would probably want to do it myself. I just left it and said nothing. Our contract clearly stated that our package included edited photos. I did not have the time to edit my own photos and made an album with the photos as they were.
I got the album back and realized that his high-res photos was not high-res enough, they seemed out of focus and some were pixelating. It was only an A4 album, I did not even use the photos that big and they were still blurry. I emailed the photographer two days ago and is still waiting for his reply.
I know there is nothing I could do about it now. If their is one bit of advice I could give brides-to-be is that you should make sure you get the best photographer possible or you could find yourself in a similar situation.
I just want to know if their is any advice to make my situation better? or if someone had the same experience?
