Are we the only couples that do this? Engaged almost 3 months now but we’re still calling each other girlfriend/boyfriend. We just can’t get used to fiance! It always goes “This is Ginger my boyfr-…. fiance”. We know we’re engaged, in my mind he’s definitely my finance and not my boyfriend but why can’t we get used to saying it?! I swear, I’ll be calling him my boyfriend even when we’re married!
Please tell me I’m not alone 🙂

I’ve called my husband “boyfriend” before! I think its becuase that is what you have used the longest

We both hate the word “fiance/fiancee” and I avoid saying it whenever I can hehe

@EleanorRigby: What do you say instead?

I avoided it a fair bit because I felt kind of pretentious using it around certain people, so with them I would just call him my boyfriend. Darling Husband went the other route and actually called me his wife on a number of occasions before we were married, lol.

We never used the word much either. It just felt weird to say. I usually just introduced him by his name. He’d say something like, “This is my future wife, Neva.”

It took us literally months, too. Not because we forgot but because we hated the sound of the word… it just seems so stuffy. Eventually we crossed the threshold and now use it all the time…. and it sounds fine!

I’m not officially engaged yet but I just don’t feel right calling my SO “boyfriend”. He’s 38 years old and I’m 33. I just feel silly saying my boyfriend. I usually say “SO” or “partner”. Can’t wait to call him my husband!

@linguo42: I feel the same way! I feel weird referring to him as my fiance to my apartment complex maintenance manager or someone like that. It makes me feel like I’m fishing for comments on my wedding. I am sure no one else would even notice, it just does feel a little pretentious sometimes. I don’t know why…that’s what he is!

We HATED saying fiance/e….it sounded sooo pretentious! I said boyfriend all the time. But husband is my favorite of them all to say 🙂

I don’t think we ever used those words. I dislike them, and Darling Husband agrees. Once we were engaged, it was “future husband” and “future wife” (or, on occasion, just “husband” and “wife”).

I HATE it! We almost never say it… I just say his name, or boyfriend still. Sometimes other people say it in reference to one of us, and it weirds me out a bit. Such a silly word!

@PitBulLover: I know what you mean about it feeling pretentious!
We are used to it now, but at first I would kind of mumble fiance when I’d reference Fiance. It also feels silly because it’s such a temporary word…so whenever you say it, everyone wants to ask you about your wedding, see the ring, etc. ect. Even if they’re total strangers!

It took us a solid month to stop calling each other bf/gf. And yeah, I agree that “fiance” sounds pretentious.

I dont like to say it either! I didn’t for a few months and Fiance would be like. noooo. i’m not your Boyfriend or Best Friend.. i’m your…. and make me say it! I just dont really like that word for some reason.
