Out of nowhere my puppy is TERRIFIED and I don’t know what of! We got home from the store, let her out of her pen, took her outside to potty, and now she is curled up under our bed. Refusing to get out. We were able to coax her out and shut the bedroom door and she just ran around in circles trying to find somewhere to hide. She wont even go in her pen which is where she ALWAYS goes if something scares her. Never has she hid under the bed! And there isn’t anything abnormal here either. No storm outside, no noise, smell, person, or action she would be afraid of or out of the norm. She was shaking so bad when I had her out here with me and I don’t know if I should be worried or just let her be. She is 8 months old and has been acting kinda shy and weird lately. Like she constantly did something wrong even when she didn’t. Is this something I need to be concerned with or just a phase? Help!!!

@Mrs Hedgehog: OMG! This is soo wierd! My cat is doing the same thing! He has never been so jumpy, but the last few days he has been acting like he is afraid of something. He runs away if he here’s anyone coming and won’t even come out to eat when we put the cat food out. He looks absolutely terrified. I’m worried too. I hope you figure out what is going on with your pup!

is it possible that she could be sick or not feeling well? I’ve never had this happen to me, just one time my dog was acting sooo weird and sad and scared and he kept going into our master bedroom and into the closet and just sitting there. i was like WTH? turned out he had a fever and an infection from a grooming gone wrong :- poor thing. I hope things turn around!

aw!! One time ours hid in the closet for a while and she was sick as well. Keep an eye on her and see if a visit to the vet is warranted! Hope she just comes out though 🙂

Is there anyone else in your house when your gone?
Any loud or noisy neighboors?
Bad weather ( wind, storms etc)
She could be sick- often the first tipoff is a change in energy/personality or she could just be going through a ” fear stage” .

Not trying to frighten you but when our cat did that it ended up being a urinary tract infection.
Maybe this is the puppy trying to tell you he isnt feeling well.
Hoping for the best!

Take him or her to the vet, sometimes they do that when they r sick. Better to be safe than sorry. Or fall the vet.

We ended up penning her up in our room durring dinner and letting her her chill from whatever might have been scaring her. Now she is just as chill as ever. Still not in a playful mood but atleast she isn’t hiding or shaking! I think now she is just tired. She had a full day at doggie day camp with her BFF’s. (Seriously. My dog has a BFF and one male dog in specific that we joke is her boyfriend. Good thing they are both fixed! They LOVE eachother!)

My mini dachshund has started to do that lately – he recently injured his back and when it flares up he starts shaking and seeks shelter under the bed. It takes him a while to come out after he goes under there. It’s almost like he’s in pain and can’t figure out how to get comfortable.
I didn’t post this to sacre you, but just watch out. If it happens again I would definitely take your puppy to the vet. I hope everything is fine with your sweet baby!
ETA: when he does this and I pick him up he doesn’t even want me to hold him. He always tries to get out of my arms and back under the bed.
