Okay, so I’m a little nervous about this part of the Honeymoon planning. I’ve been planning the entire Honeymoon and paying for it myself & it’s just ever so slightly stressful. Ha! So, I booked the flight & hotel. Now I just need to book the car rental. We’re going to Kauai and I was thinking it would be awesome to book a Ford Mustang because its our Honeymoon. My other problem is my Fiance drives a luxury car and attempted to save by downgrading to a Honda Accord and he hated it because it gave him terrible back problems. (He used to drive a ton for work and in general has had back problems however, this increased the situation and now is in a civil suit with Honda Motor Corp.) so, I could use all of my pts. on my Amex and I would owe $100 for the rental. Or, I could book an regular/standard car and use 7,000pts. but, Im nervous to take that chance of getting a Honda or something similar because, I just don’t want him to have to worry about anything or be hurting. This is my wedding treat to him….what would you do bees? I think I know the answer I just am not 100% sure…

We rented a Mustang in Kauai and didn’t really enjoy it. I found it uncomfortable to get in and out of. If you’re going to upgrade I would go for a Jeep.

Honestly, we got the cheapest car the rental place had (Chevy Aveo hatchback).
Not worth it in my opinion to spend lots of money on a fancy rental car. You’re only going to use the car a few days, not like him driving the same car every day.
Darling Husband & I decided we’d much rather like to spend the money on a nicer hotel room, activities, nice dinners, etc.

Good pts to both of you. Everytime I went to book using my pts. I just couldn’t do it. The cheapest car rental is about $150 so I’ll stick to that.

You may have already booked but I wanted to add that we booked a Mustang to drive from Palm Springs to San Francisco via Las Vegas and the Moave desert and we really enjoyed it. Darling Husband drives a Mercedes and had some complaints about the manufacturing of the Ford but he had a lot of fun driving it witht he top down in the desert as well as in San Fran with it’s insane hills. We had a standard compact rental (Kia Soul) from San Fran to San Diego and while it was more efficient on both fuel and luggage storage, it was not nearly as fun to drive. I think the Mustang really was worth the extra cost (it was not so much more on the route we took). It’s also more fun in photos.

I 2nd getting a jeep! You can still take the top sections off , but it’s 4×4, so you can explore some places that might be limited by a mustang. 🙂

I can’t see spending a ton of money on a rental car, when you can spend the funds on other things that are fun to do or see. A car is just a car to get you around. When we went to Seattle we got a small car and it was fine the few days we actually used it.

Since your Fiance has back problems, couldn’t he use one of those back support thingys that you just place in the car seat? That way you can rent any car you want.

Thank You you everyone for the advice! I ended up settling on a SUV. It was only $153 for the week 🙂
