Happy Friday everyone!!
So, we are having a modest wedding in my opinion. I just received my taxes and sold my old car since I bought a new one. I now have a chunk of money to put towards the wedding and I am not sure where to put it. The way I see it, I have three options:
1.) Put all of the money to the reception and have it 90% paid off.
2.) Pay the balance on the photographer, videographer, and a small amount to the reception.
3.) Pay the honeymoon off and then a small amount to the reception.
Fiance and I have paid for everything so far, and our parents are going to help as much as they can, but neither of our familes are really able to contribute much (and we are beyond 100% ok with that). Each of our families have said, just tell me how much you need and it isn’t that easy for either of us. Neither Fiance or I like asking for things, and we do not want to ask for money that they don’t have or that would put them in a financial bind.
Point being, i need to put this money towards something….and I just don’t know what would make the most sense.

You’re going to have to pay it all eventually, right? If your parents are contributing to the wedding they likely won’t to the honeymoon so I’d put the money there…

I would map out exactly what you’re doing for each aspect, and pay off the most expensive important things. Wouldn’t start with the honeymoon, even though it’s important. Food, photography, venue, those are VERY important in reguards to a wedding.

What Jenilynavette said. We paid our venue/food first because if everything else went horribly wrong, we’d still be able to have a party and feed people, lol.

Put your money on the biggest bill ASAP. It’s easier to make smaller payments than really big ones!

I’m in the same situation, but i have a cheeky thought – darn i WANT that photogpraher & i WANT those rings. Pay them off & that way there is no turning back. The reception – we’ll have to make it work somehow! Don’t know whether i’d actually go ahead with it though…

@Nic01: so happy to hear I am not the only one in this boat!! I am paying the photographer off and holding on to the remainder to put towards the venue. I need some relief that I have something paid in full. Lol.

Go ahead and pay the reception. worse comes to worst, you have a party anyway

@FutureWife517: I’m with you here1 I’ve read soemwhere that when you have a large ‘debt’ (ie wedding) it’s more motivating to see the smaller things paid off first…
It’s my logic & i’m sticking to it 🙂 lol

I would start with the essential items. If, God forbid, a catastrophe happened and your budget is dramatically slashed, at least you will still have a venue and food, versus a great honeymoon but nowhere for your wedding.
