Hmm, it sounds like you should stick with the heart ring for its sentimentality.  But if you don’t really mind the change, then go with his choice! Round diamonds are beautiful and classic.

to me, its not about money. i wouldnt chose a ring based on the price, its about what it means to you and your husband. since it seems like you dont really want to keep your original ring, i would let your husband choose. I am a very picky person, so when it came time to pick out an engagement ring, I chose 5 that i loved and then let my fiance suprise me with the one he liked best. since you cant decide on one, maybe you should do the same thing. pick out some that you love and would be happy with, and let him choose from those.

What are you thinking about doing for your wedding band? Unless you want a plain band, maybe you could do the round cut on your engagement ring and then a wedding band with marquis stones in it. That way you get both what you like and what he likes! Not sure how it would look, but something like this that mixes round and marquis cut diamonds could look really pretty with a round cut solitaire:

What about an oval? That way it looks bigger and it’s rounded. I have a 1 carat oval alexandrite and it looks huge…works the same as the marquis without being so pointed. Originally I had wanted an emerald cut but when we went to pick out stones this was the nicest one and I love it now!

@JustLove25:  I was just thinking of it as a compromise between what you and your FH want. If you set a 3/4 in a more delicate band I believe you would not even notice the difference. Also the carat weight is exactly that…weight. You can have a 1 carat that looks the same as a 3/4 on the surface because of the depth of the stone…have you considered that?

I forgot to ask…what size is your finger? A small stone will look bigger on a small hand (definitely not me! lol).

@JustLove25:  I can’t answer whether you should be wowed or not. I look at it like it is with the dresses…some women get that wow moment and some don’t. I had my heart set on an emerald cut but chose the oval because of the quality of the stone. Now that I have it, I love it and I’m glad I didn’t get the emerald cut (no offense to any with emerald cut but it wouldn’t look right with the setting we designed).

And btw, this is also my second marriage and I didn’t want anything to remind me either. My ering is completely different from my first.
