Ok so a friend of mine has been working on my invites. Unfortunately her schedule has gotten extremely busy and we haven’t been able to go further than the main invite. I started playing around with the design so that with the off chance I need to take this over and finish up the design work I have something to go with. Now I am not sure which I like better.
Here is the inspiration picture
Here is the invite we did together and thought was the final. The planes are for my fiance who flies as a hobby, the cardinals are supposed to be love birds and are our state bird. We were trying to do a layout similar to the inspiration picture (actually I wanted it exactly like the inspiration but we didn’t end up with that).
Now here is what I was playing with – keep in mind there is a lot of work that needs to be done. The only thing I am looking to change between the invitations is the flourishes. So that is what I need help with – I am not sure which looks better the flourish side design on the main invite or the second invite. I kind of feel the second invite works better (better connection) with the birds but I am not sure.
So which do you think looks better? I wanted fun and whimsical and close to the inspiration picture.

I like both, but the first one is less busy and more elegant in my very humble opinion : ) Good Luck!

i agree with pp that the first one is less busy but imho they are both pretty busy. the flourish detail, the birds and the planes. the bottom one has the flowers and hearts too. there is too much going on. the eye doesn’t know where to look, start or stop.
i understand that you want to incorporate the planes too but perhaps do the birds on the invite and the planes on the rsvp. remember, less is more.
i do love the colours you picked.

@mypinkshoes: So in taking your suggestion into consideration and deleting the planes from the background – which flourish design would you then go with? The second one incorporates our colors better I think.

@Bella_and_Max: i really like both flourishes. the top one is more elegant and formal where the bottom one is fun and flirty.

@mypinkshoes: Our wedding is going to be taking place outside in the lawn of an historic buiding. We want both the wedding and reception to be fun. His family is more simple country folk so we don’t want to make it to stuffy. If that makes sense? We have opted out of doing a wedding cake and are going to do a wedding donut cake as well as having a S’mores bar.

The second one looks a little 70’s ish IMO.

I actually thought the 2nd one looked less busy & easier to read, but maybe I am crazy. With either one, I would delete the dots and planes from behind the text…too hard to read. Overall, I like them both!

Do you even need any flourishes? I think I’d keep them more simple, as my eye doesn’t know where to look with these. I’d do one or the other (planes, birds OR flourishes)…or even just use the flourishes you like on the response cards or any other inserts.

I like the second one a lot better. It’s less busy. The first one I was distracted wiht all the stuff going on, but in the second one the words stand out more and everything looks a little more put together.

Ok made some changes (Ok a lot of changes)
How does this look, should I put the love birds on the invite or not?

I really like the first one

I think the first one is best

I like the 2nd one. The first one is “more elegant” but the 2nd one is fun and artsy. If fun and artsy is your style, I would pick 2. If simple and elegant is your style, I would pick 1.
