Hello fellow bees! So I’m probably the ONLY bride in the world (well at least on here) who will not see her engagement ring until the wedding day. I know, I know, I can imagine exactly what you all are thinking. Trust me, Ive shed many tears, many frustrations, many lots of things over this. So here’s the back story.
First of all you should all know im only 1 bride in a 2 bride wedding. With this comes twice the everything, including the engagement ring. I proposed first in Oct 2008 just before California passed prop 8. My fiance is really a very simple girl. She wanted a white gold band. That’s it. No bling, No sparkle, No nothing. I said NO GO!! No way was I NOT gonna get her bling. I definitely didnt get her a traditional engagement ring but she did get bling. Now, when it came to me we have a completely different story. Let’s see. Im a Taurus who loves beautiful, expensive things. Im all about quality over quantity and when it comes to diamonds I. KNOW. MY. S&%$. She did not have an easy feat. I gave her specifics. I originally wanted a cushion cut, at least 1 carat, DEF color, and SI1 clarity at the very least. After shopping around I changed it from a cushion cut to a round. Im all about the diamond being the most important part of the ring so I wanted a solitaire at first. After trying on different styles I decided I wanted to somehow incoorperate pave stones into the setting as well. Now that she knew what I wanted she set out to find it. I was involved in picking out the diamond, but choosing the setting was all up to her.
Because my fiance was determined to pay for my ring in cash I knew it would be a while before I actually got to wear it. I told her I thought about $5000 was what I was comfortable with. Apparently she had other ideas and ended up spending in the 5 figure range. Surprisingly she was able to pay for it months ahead of schedule so for the past 4 months every one of our friends has seen it except me. And for some reason EVERYONE seems to love the idea. They think its so awesome. They think it will make our wedding day even more special. Our jeweler told me there was no way she would be able to make it to the wedding without giving it to me. But she was and continues to be dead set on not giving in. At first I hated it. I felt like I was missing out on a huge part of the engagement experience that I wasnt going to be able get back. But, she told me that it was important for her to have this moment. She wants to have our photographer capture my emotion through lens when I see it for the first time so she’s going to present it to me during our first look. Its been hard not to get envious of other women with beautiful rings. Its been annoying to see people’s reaction when I say Im engaged and they look down at my finger. Its been hard to be elated for my friends who’ve gotten engaged and are over the moon about thier rings. This experience has definitely humbled me. Im a “I want what I want when I want it” kinda girl. But, my lady has been working her ass off to get me something beyond my expectations, so I will let her have this moment. She tells me she’s incredibly proud of herself and she can’t wait to see my face. In the end, its not about the ring, its about us so I guess I’ll just have wait another 20 days. All I have to say is IT BETTER BE WORTH IT!!!! LOL!!
Are there any other brides that could wait until their wedding day to see their engagement ring
