Mr. Hearty and I have only been dating for a short amount of time. We only met nine months ago. But while we were celebrating Mardi Gras together earlier this month, I made a request that we celebrate the next year in the same place together.
He told me that wouldn’t be a problem because we would likely be married by that time next year so wherever we were celebrating Mardi Gras it would be together. He and I had discussed the possibility of forever before, but never in such concrete terms. Since that moment, I’ve been paying more attention to the wedding world. I’ve discovered this wonderful website weddingbee.com and some others. I’ve been taking notes about great ideas for the different parts of the wedding that need to be planned.
Mr. Hearty is a school teacher and he was on Spring Break this week. He and I both took it upon ourselves (without discussing it yet) to tell our friends who would be in our wedding party (which we had discussed) that they basically had less than a year to agree to join in and come up with the funds to do so.
To me, that made it even more real that this is something we were really doing. Also separately, we told our parents and close family members of our plans. It’s definitely not traditional to be making all these steps towards the future without being engaged, but Mr. Hearty and I march to the beat of our own drummer. We make our own rules and then try to convey them in a way that won’t freak out all the people we love.
I also loved that he and I had discussed our plans but that we also separately wantd to include the people that mattered most to us. I’m not some crazy person going out on the wedding limb by myself. Mr. Hearty is out there on the crazy branch with me. That’s why I love him so much. And we match in so many other ways besides our craziness, I promise.
I’m excited to be sharing my journey toward the altar with this community. I was going to create a whole new blog for it after we get engaged, but I think I’ll just write about it here. I’m excited and I hope you don’t all think I’m a crazy person for thinking about wedding and marriage plans before I’m actually engaged.
