Our reception was on a water front lawn so on the reception card we wrote something along the lines of:

The reception will be held on the Vineyard’s lawn on the Peconic Bay so please wear comfortable shoes to walk on the grass. Don’t forget a bring a sweater because the sea air can get chilly at night.

(Our wedding was more on the casual side so thats why the wording was informal)

We are getting married at a winery and on our info card said ” this event will be held on the vineyard lawn. Please wear appropriate and comfortable shoes”

I don’t think you need to say the lawn is unsteady or uneven.  All lawns are like that.  Just say it’s grass/lawn and people will get the picture.

@CoffeeandCream:  If they still wear spikey heels in grass, I don’t think saying the grass is bumpy will deter them.

How about a poem?

The wedding reception will be held on the grass
Don’t wear high heels or you will fall on your ***

Ok, maybe not those exact words…but something like it? Laughing
