I always knew how expensive weddings were, I just never understood how people came up with the money to pay for them and figured everyone just went into credit cards debt.

The food! While the use of the conference center was free, we had to use their catering. What we paid for light refreshments was double what we paid for the pig roast and there was tons more food at the pig roast!

@gso_bride:  thanks for hearing me out  : )  All the other vendors get to go home and the job is done, but for the photographers and videographers the work has just begun!

I wasn’t so shocked about the amounts it was more of the nickel and diming…..

$2.50/person for PLASTIC cups, straws, ice and the fountain pop for mixed drink….PLASTIC CUPS!!!!!!

$25 for use of the tv in the lobby, $25 for use of the tv in the main room, $25 for the screen….

$100 to get your stuff out of the venue the next day IF you do it in one hour…..(they usually want things cleared 45 minutes after the event)

increased fees for New Year’s Eve…..

Lots of other things as well…..I think I’ve tried to block it all out!

Oh yeah…..$3/person to CUT the cake!!!!!

As soon as the word wedding comes out of your mouth the price jumps! It’s disgusting.
I called around to places for two weeks pretending to get price quotes for birthdays and outdoor dinner parties and then called again for a wedding. OMGOSH! The price jumped like crazy.

I’m learning to not take the first quote as an answer.

Here are examples I have documented.

Limo company #1- Called on Monday. Spoke with gentlemen. He asked what type of event. I say it’s limo service for about 15-20 people after a wedding reception. We plan on having an afterparty. He quoted me $1399 with a five hour min.
On Wednesday I called the same place and asked for a quote for a girls night out on a Saturday to celebrate an early birthday. We would have 15-25 girls with us. He quoted me $750 for a five hour min. I then asked what’s the difference between a wedding and a girls night out and he said “Nothing. Those are fixed prices.” I told him he quoted me $1399 on Monday for an afterparty after the reception. He then stumbled and said the “Wedding package” included a red carpet roll out and 1 small bottle of pink champagne. When I told him Ididn’t want either of those things, he said the price would still be $1399 because it’s a wedding. I asked if they had a special force of professional wedding drivers and he said no. So the guy who would drive us around on a girls night would be the same guy driving for a wedding after party, but it was $650 more. BUSTED.

I plan on doing our flowers myself, but I called a florist just to see if there was a price difference. I asked for the rate for gerbera daisies for a wedding. She didn’t even give me a per stem quote. She said, “wedding boquets start at $150.” I said, well I only want 12 stems. No filler, no bling, no roses, ect. nope. $150 for a gerbera bouquet.
I waited about 4 days to have Mr. Tattoo call back and ask the per stem rate for gerbera dasies. He wanted to put 12 of them in a vase for his girlfriends birthday. She quoted him $3 a stem. SHe even told him she would wrap it up in a simple arrangement for $45. I didn’t call her out on the price. I just documented it.

We called a party rental place for chairs. A woman gave Mr. Tattoo a quote of $7.50 per chair for simple white garden chairs for an outdoor wedding. I called a day later and spoke to the same person and got a quote of $3.50 per chair for the same white garden chairs for an outdoor dinner party. I brought up the price difference and she seemed like she felt bad and said if we went with that company, she would give us the chairs for $3.00 per chair.

I think before I would have accepted the first quotes. It’s because it’s a wedding and because they can.

lol I’m ready to start a service like Lending Tree where banks compete to give you a loan. It will just be for brides looking for other services.

@ScooterBride:  I’m doing heavy hors d’oeuvres and it’s costing me more than a ful sit down meal…..my caterer actually told me that if I thought the cost was too high that he could do a sit down meal for me WAY CHEAPER!
