Got back from our cruise and…we now have a beautiful stone in the house. I was more than impressed when my guy spent over 2 hours haggling with a jeweler on our vacation and even got the guy to throw in a $1500 philip stein for free in return for our business. Yeah. I was VERY impressed. 🙂
But I’m even more excited about the diamond we found. I love creamy or light yellow cushion cuts. Unfortunately white brilliants are all the rage, making cushions and especially stones in the lower color ranges INCREDIBLY hard to find. I couldn’t believe it when we found a 1.5 S-T cushion in the middle of the carribean. And we wrangled a fabulous deal because we purchased some investment pieces in addition to the stone. I still can’t believe how well we lucked out. We tried it out in a setting with white diamonds and it was oh so buttery beautiful… mmmmm 🙂
Ever since we made the purchase he’s been super open about settings, what he’d want as a wedding band, ring this, ring that, kid this, kid that. I’m so incredibly happy. I don’t even feel like I’m actually waiting. Just feels like we’re just doing some shopping so the engagement can happen. Seriously. It’s like the proposal is just a technicality at this point.
I’m kinda glad he didn’t propose during the cruise. Wasn’t the most fantastic of cruises, no real romantic moments. Just wasn’t the right time and I’m glad he hadn’t planned to. But here’s to hoping it happens by New Years.
I was just excited and wanted to tell someone who wasn’t my pessimistic mother. 🙂

I cant wait to see a pic, it sounds so pretty

Thanks! 🙂 I want to get a pic. Taking it to an appraiser on Wednesday, so maybe I can get it alone for a quick photo shoot. Maybe…not sure if it would be quite impressive without a setting to really show off the color. We’ll see.
Our friends got engaged last year and married this year and they picked us up from the airport when we got back. We showed them the stone, of course :), but as I was looking at it with his wife, her husband and my guy had their little whispering moment. It’s happened a couple times. I’m pretty aware of my surroundings so you suddenly talking quietly amongst yourselves isn’t exactly sneaky. Makes me wonder what they are talking about.

Just took a couple pics. Apparently he’s going the leave-it-out-in-the-open-on-top-of-my-dresser-and-not-at-all-hidden route. So here she is. Wish I had a macro lens. In person it gives off the coolest illusion of being much deeper than it is. Almost like you can see right down into it like a sparkling pool of water. Very interesting. We had gone to some other jeweler who had some diamond that had some patent for a “perfect” cut that enhanced the sparkliness of brilliant cuts. You could see the symmetry and sparkle it created. But the depth just wasn’t there. I’m so happy we found this. Hoping the pics give you an idea of the butteriness I was trying to describe. It will be much more apparent once we get it set. 🙂

@Mrs. Puffin: Thanks! 🙂 Me too. It’s amazingly hard to find affordable delicate halo settings that I love. The really gorgeous ones are close to 2K, which, after buying the stone, seems WAY too expensive. I offered to pay for the setting since he got the stone. He shut that one down with a quick, “Well, I don’t want you paying for the ring.” I asked for an idea of what he was wanting to stay under cost-wise so I knew what I could look at. He said that he hasn’t decided yet. The stone was under a mystery, probably non-existant budget and now the setting is. Makes it super difficult to freely look. If he wants it to be under 1K, great. I can work with that. If it’s under 5K, even better. But I don’t want to be looking at 4K rings when he was thinking $600. I’ve tried to tell him this. He vaguely alluded to 2K and under. Vaguely. Who knows. I thought it would be super cool to get a moissy setting but I couldn’t find one that I love. (I have a very specific idea in my head). Here’s to hoping we find something soon.
