During my 6 week break from TTC due to Darling Husband being offshore for work, I did a TON of research – books, fertility diets, etc etc. And even though I was “out” for ttc, I still tracked my cycle on the CBEFM just to make sure everything was still doing what it should.
I ovulated WAY late, didn’t get my peaks until CD 20 and 21. I freaked out. I finally figured out a reason, and my RE confirmed it – I had been taking Bayer for about a week, due to a really sore groin muscle (hot yoga 5X a week!) and it is in the NSAID class of drugs. NSAIDS can interfere with hormone levels and actually DELAY ovulation! Several studies showed that the typical delay was 4-5 days (if taking consistently – which I was)… Tylenol is not an NSAID, and therefore doesn’t interfere with ovulation, so I just wanted to share that because it totally screwed me up! I was so mad at myself!
Also, my initial Prenatal Vitamin were the gummy ones and I was just as excited about them as everyone else. The brand I had was VitaFusion. They’re delish, right?!? Well, if you’re taking them, be sure to take an iron supplement too, because they have NO iron in them. I read all this stuff online about Geritol having a “baby in every bottle.”
I was ready to stick an IV in with Geritol! But it turns out, it has a lot to do with Iron. There was a Harvard Study that showed women with higher iron intake got pregnant faster. So there is a connection with iron and fertility. Again, I was so mad at myself for not knowing this!
Obviously these are kind of small things. Maybe I am just manic! But I still wanted to share, just in case it could possibly help anyone:)
If this sounds kind of nerdy, I’m a former drug rep (pharmaceutical sales) and am now a Medical Device rep, so I guess I’m probably more interested in studies and things of that nature, just because that’s what I’ve used to “sell” for so long. Sorry if I bored you:)
