@LittleRedOwl:  I would never want to see a naked pregnant lady. I probably won’t even want to look at myself naked when I’m pregnant one day!  I’ll be too busy counting the days until I am back in shape again! The entire concept of such photos is completely odd to me.

@LittleRedOwl:  I think if someone wants to do this for themselves, that’s up to them.  I really don’t want a naked picture of one of my friends under any circumstances.

I think some (clothed!) maternity photos are very sweet but I don’t get the uncovered belly or mostly naked shots.  Why?  Why is that necessary or wanted?  Why would you send these to other people?

I’m also not a fan of the pictures that are just a little too worshipful of the belly.  Dude on his knees while both he and the mom to be carress and stare lovingly at the belly?  Yeesh, no.

We are planning to do some like@PacificMrs:  posted but they will be for our personal use. We plan to make a canvas of one for our bedroom (that no one goes in). It’s something beautiful and intimate.

I would never post them on FB or send them to family. My poor grandma would have a heart attack.

I think they’re great for private consumption.

    No.  Just no.

None of the photos posted in this thread are appropriate for social media, a birth announcement, or otherwise for the eyes of anyone but the parents themselves.  If you want nude or semi-nude photos of yourself while pregnant, professional or otherwise, knock yourself out, but I don’t want to see it.

I don’t want to see my friends naked.  Period.  Why do people think having a pregnant belly somehow makes it okay to broadcast photos of themselves topless with only their hands or hair covering their breasts?

Private photos, sure. I know someone who put hers all over facebook and it was so awkward…

I saw this post last night before heading off to bed, and wanted to come back to comment… see there are lots of NEW comments today which echo my point of view…

And some photos… lol, always entertaining.

Before Boudoir & Preganancy Photos became mainstream, occasionally you’d see an artsy painting or picture of a pregnant woman

I seem to remember my Cousin & her Hubby having one in their Bedroom from the early 70s … it was very tasteful… him & her, clothes on and he embracing her belly

(Lol they were a very HIP & artsy couple for the time… he worked in Advertising)

    Everywhere else…

The big break in Pregnancy (and Boudoir) kind of got its start with Demi Moore and the cover of Vanity Fair in 1991… and what a SCANDAL that was at the time !!  (Google it if you like)

PHOTO – from the Vanity Fair Website = http://www.vanityfair.com

Today that photo is pretty normal stuff…

And of course “the pose” itself is now iconic… probably the most replicated of all pregnancy poses for the camera

The slippery slope to Pregnancy Photos is the same as for Boudoir Photos… or any semi-nude / nude photos for that matter..

This is a category that if one wishes to pursue it, it is best done with a Professional Photographer that excels in this medium (not just anyone can take semi-nudes or nudes and have them come off as classy… this is real study in subject matter, lighting, pose, accessories, background etc)

Demi Moore is actually pretty famous naked in other ways too…

Before she did the movie Striptease… and that cover shot, there weren’t many “tasteful nudes” done in the mainstream

After that photo… Boudoir Photography really took off… and lots of women who were of the braver sort wanted to do an arsty shot where they were totally nude but legs and hands placed in such a way as nothing was seen by the lens

PHOTO – Cover shot for the movie Striptease

Altho some photo shoots are better than others if they are done artistically (like these two above… lol mind you we are talking award winning Photographer Annie Leibovitz here)… but for the most part there just seem to be too many that are too unprofessional and look tawdy… more so if the shots involve full nudity or for preganancy involved both a naked woman and man

Certainly not my cup of tea…

I love them personally but they wouldnt be for the public to see. That is going a little far. I love artist shots so something like the Demi Moore cover that celebrates mother hood and not the creepy plastic wrap angel or the snow bitten queen would be right up my ally. We plan to have them done. On that same note however I am not a fan of the mold of the belly. What on earth are you going to do with that? use it as a ounch bowl at your baby shower? To me they are just weird.

I model :), i didn’t model while i was pregnant with my first but this time around i want to make the most of my pregnant form. I’m planning on doing a mother nature/gaia style shoot with body paint, to me a woman is most beautiful when she is carrying life and i want to portray that in my shoot.

    @harperlynn:  OMG those are awful.

They are a big HELL NO in my book. I just don’t ever find them nice or elegant.  If you want to do them, that’s fine–keep them private.

@LittleRedOwl:  I see I’m in the minority here. I plan of having them done. but I love arty photos and definitely want them to look back on.

I wouldn’t send them out to family though, or post them on Facebook!
