I’m trying to put the last touches on the nursery decor (haha, LO is only 14 weeks old….) and I want to make one of those round, stuffed pouf ottomans to go with our rocking chair. I can’t decide what color to make it. Her nursery is mainly pink and white but has chocolate brown thrown in. I wanted it soft and feminine but modern. We live in a rental, so we cannot paint or change the flooring (beige, blech!). Here are a couple pictures of some of her existing furniture.
We have curtains like these one their way:
And I am making a large rug like this one in shades of pink, white and brown:
What I am trying to decide is this. I want to make a pouf ottoman to go with the rocking chair. Something like this:
I can’t decide what to do though. I want some kind of pattern or texture to add some more visual interest but I don’t want to go overboard. So far, the only patterns are the cherry blossoms on the bedding, a little bit of stripes and polka dots on the chair and the boxes on the bookshelf and the chevron pattern in the rug. The only texture is the ruffled curtains. I’m having trouble deciding what i want to do with it. I found this:
and I thought the flower texture would be cute in shades of pink and maybe white. I also thought something in a ruffle might be okay
If I do a pattern, I can’t decide what colors to use. Pink/white? Pink/brown? Brown/white? Help me out here, bees. I can’t make up my mind. What do you guys think?

I love the keep calm and eat cupcakes picture 🙂

I absolutely love the upholstery on that chair! So I’d probably go with something like that. It would also tie the 2 different pieces of furniture together nicely so that it can probably be sold easily or moved to a different part of your home – it would make an awesome statement piece in a living room.
By The Way – how are you making that rug? Tutorial please 🙂

@ms_protea: Haha. I refinished and reupholstered the chair. 🙂 It was DH’s great-grandmother’s.
@mandy102: She has cupcake bookends and a cupcake piggy bank too. lol

if you buy a basic round ottoman, maybe you could reupholster it in the same material as the chair 🙂 or another pink and brown material 🙂

I definitely think a chocolate brown poof would look great–and be versatile to be used elsewhere in your home once LO outgrows her nursery!

So adorable! I love the colors. And the cupcake sign!!!
I agree that an ottoman re-covered from the same fabric as the chair would be really cute!!
And…I’m only 16 weeks along and our nursey is all put together except for the wall hangings…It’s so fun to do!!!

I agree with PPs who suggested using the same fabric you used to recover the chair so it becomes a set. I think repeating the pattern will be a nice addition to the overall nursery. Maybe a ruffled toss pillow on the chair could increase your texture in the room. Also, I would love a rug tutorial too!
