We purchased all of our baby furniture after our baby shower. Our shower was July 28 and we are/were due Sept 25 And we ordered our furniture mid August. It all came in on time 🙂 and is all set up.

Unless you have a really strong suspicion that someone else plans to buy them, I would go ahead and buy the crib and change table before your shower. I’m not sure where you plan to order furniture from but some places can take a few weeks from the time you order until your furniture is delivered. For example, the lady at Babies R Us told me to allow about 8 weeks for delivery. Plus, if you start looking for furniture now you can watch for sales.

I’m 23 weeks and my baby furniture (crib and dresser which will double as a change table) just arrived today. The baby is going to sleep in a pack n play in our room for the first little bit but I still wanted to have the nursery done early. I plan to use the crib for nap time during the day, that way he’s already used to sleeping there so it’ll be an easier transition when we move him from our room into his own room at night.

We ordered ours early because we found a good deal. I was about 20 weeks.

At the time it felt too early –but looking back, it was a good idea because some of the furniture took a few weeks to be shippped. I believe Babies R Us had a 6-7 weeks to 2-3 week delivery factor to consider depending on the purchase.

We bought all of the big ticket items ourselves so we bought them as we went along and before the shower.  We really didn’t have to buy much furniture though as we repurposed a lot of stuff we already had and we don’t have a traditional nursery with a crib and separate change table.

Fil did buy us the closet and I had to wait for that until after my shower.  I just had to wait to wash and organize baby’s clothes until we got the closet BUT we bought it from a local furniture store so we bought it and had it delivered the same day.

Unless people have expressed desire to buy you specific furniture pieces or you have them on your registry, I would go ahead and buy those things now.

I would go ahead and buy the furniture.  Even though, we are planning on keeping the baby in the pack n’ play at first as well, it makes me nervous not having everything ready.  My sister is also telling me that we should start ordering stuff now because some of her friends waited, and the furniture took forever to come in.  I still feel like it is a little early.  I kind of figure that if everything isn’t in by the time March rolls around, it’s fine.

@hoogirl05:  We have 2 guest rooms, and we are going to move the bed in the nursery to the office, so we won’t be loosing any beds.  We don’t really have anyone come in town for the holiday’s anyways, so it isn’t too big of a deal.  Knowing us, we probably won’t set it up before January though anyways, but we may order the furniture before then.
