Basically, a girl in a nursing program in China mishandled the newborns at a hospital she was interning at and posted pictures online stating “Oh look, they can even mimic the dead!” and things like that. A professor stated that she didn’t think the girl was malicious. As far as I can tell, the only thing that happened to the girl is getting dismissed from her internship!
As a nursing student, this makes me SICK! I can’t even believe anyone would have the audacity to mishandle anyone else’s child. If she’s not even mature enough to realize the responsibility that she holds over her patients’ lives and she mistreats them, why on earth is she being allowed to continue in the program? I really think she needs to be dismissed from the nursing program and never be allowed to get her nursing license. That is ridiculous. I know in the US, it takes about 2 years of pre-reqs before you can even apply to the nursing program which means that if you start toward that goal at age 18, you aren’t even going to be let in the program until you are 20. At that age, especially with the personality that most nursing students have (Type A, very caring, don’t want to hurt anyone etc) she should be so much more mature than she behaved.
That’s not even going into the privacy issues of her posting others’ children on the internet!
ETA: This link gives more info and shows other pictures. Apparently this girl is a senior and will graduate in June with a bachelor’s in nursing.

Who would ever find that kind of thing funny? I agree with you OP, she should be kicked out of nursing school. If she has the ability to show that level of carelessness and immaturity at this stage in her career, I find it hard to believe that she’ll change any time soon.

That made my stomach churn seeing their heads back like that. Uhg. I agree, she should be removed from the school & never allowed to work in a hospital. Expecially around children.

That is disgusting! Besides being completely heartless this intern was crossing lines into patient abuse and mistreatment. She should be dismissed from her program and never be given a licence to practice! I can’t imagine what she’ll be doing to other helpless patients just because she thinks it is funny.

As a mother, I am terrified. Terrified that someone so wreckless can be in contact with defensless babies.
As a nurse, I am appauled. She’s a senior…she knows better. Even people with no experience has the common sense to support a baby’s beck. Someone who has been trained in any sort of nursing has been directly told to do so. This demonstrates intentional harm. I agree that she should not be allowed to finish school. Clearly, nursing is not her calling.

She didn’t belong in nursing in the first place! She doesn’t give a shit about people, and is a complete moron. I’m horrified that anybody could do that to a baby, much less someone trying to get into the nursing profession.

I wouldn’t want her near my baby!..I can NOT believe they are allowing her to finish nursing school!

And this is why I’m so glad someone suggested I put “My husband is to stay with our newborn at all times while she’s in the hospital” in my birth plan. So awful.

Omg those pictures make me sick. I think it goes without saying this girl should be kicked out and drop this whole nursing thing. I’m sick thinking someone would handle a newborn like that.

Looking at those photos made me feel sick. How could she think that’s “funny”?!

thats disgusting. People are so sick these days. I did read online that she was ordered to suspend her internship. So hopefully she will NOT have a medical license or be able to work around children.
so sad 🙁

I would think if she is unable to complete her internship she would not be allowed to graduate. I had classmates that were kicked out of our clinical for unsafe practices and they did not graduate.

Wow. She is a piece of crap.

As a nursing student this made me sick!! Next semester is my OB and Peds rotation and I have been looking forward to it. I can’t even grasp why someone would treat a newborn baby that way and seeing their heads flop like that is beyond sickening!!!! That really is patient abuse, and she clearly didn’t learn the lesson on how to treat patients. She deserves more then just being kicked out of nursing school. She clearly doesn’t have the responsibility or the heart to be a nurse and doesn’t deserve the honor of being a nurse.
