I’ve been pumping at work and nursing while I’m at home. My supply tanked a few weeks back when I was sick, and I’ve never recovered fully. Work is getting crazy and it’s harder and harder to pump. I was pumping at 9, 11, 1 and 3, but lately I can usually only get 2 sessions in. We started supplementing with formula during the day to make up the difference between what I can pump for DS and what he eats during a day.
Basically I’m putting a lot of effort (and far too much stress) into trying to recover my supply, and it’s not really working. I’d love to pump once a day at work (in addition to first thing in the morning, and just let that be it. I don’t mind supplementing with formula, since I have no choice and my pediatrician was very reassuring. (It has more to do with feeling like I am inadequate than the formula vs. breastmilk debate – I don’t mean any offense to those who feed formual!).
So I’m really looking to see if there is anyone who has been able to keep up their overall supply (especially during the morning and evenings when I’m with DS to nurse) while cutting back on pumping. I don’t want my supply to continue to dwindle, so I’m stressing about maintaining, by trying to get in extra sessions during the day. I’d love to just pump once a day at work, nurse DS when I’m with him, and supplement with formula at daycare. Any moms have any advice for me?
