reptilelvr:  Girl, they are lying and cheating scumbags. This is one of my personal crusades, after my own insurance illegally tried to deny me coverage.

Here are some resources about what to do if they deny you coverage illegally, including a free hotline for help:

And here’s some more information about how they have to cover the NuvaRing:

I’m having problems with insurance coverage of the Ring or the Patch

And finally, here’s some info about how much insurance suck and do illegal crap:

I used Nuva on and off for 4 years. Overall it was very effective; you do not need a backup. However I will never use a hormonal birth control again; they make me sick to my stomach and I believe we are not getting the full story on risks. I gained weight on it but my skin looked great. Nuva made me very “ragey” also.  It was the best bcp I had been on but at the same time I hated it.

RachelGrace:  that’s absurd. As long as it has contact with your thin vaginal membranes (aka just insert it; it will stay and even inch up towards your cervix) it releases the hormones.

I like it. I don’t think I’ve noticed any side effects. On the pill, I was really emotional and sometimes it made me sick.

I can just put a new one in right after taking out the old one, but for some reason I often wait a week to have my period. I don’t think you have to at all.

When you put it in, It goes vertically. I don’t know if it changes to a horizontal position or not. My SO says he can feel it only sometimes.

I hated the NuvaRing. It made me super moody, was really uncomfortable (like that thing is HUGE. I have no idea how some people can wear it comfortably!), made me paranoid that it would fall out every time I went to the bathroom, and since I was sexually active while using it my boyfriend (now FI) could feel it and hated it too lol. I stayed on it about 6 months before switching to the pill for another 6 months. The ring and the pill also gave me a massive DVT, so there’s that.
