I have been happily on the NuvaRing for over 3 years now.
I just realized today when looking at the calendar that I will be taking my ring out the day before my wedding, I always start the day/night I take my ring out.
Any suggestions out there? I am pretty sure the ring is NOT like the pill where you can just put a new one in right away and skip a period.
Instead of putting a new one in the 3 weeks before my wedding, should I just leave it out and take those chances (we are planning on TTC right after the wedding, planning to abstain for month or so before wedding)

I’ve been doing 2 rings back to back so I only have half the periods I should. I’ve done this for like 3 years – no problems!

@Pinkmoon: really, I guess I must have miss-read something…

You can actually put your ring in on the first and not take it out until the 25th. You can also wear them back to back. It doesn’t affect anything but your period and is completely safe and has been studied both ways.

You can wear the ring for 4 weeks, instead of 3, and then take it out. I always do that and my doctor said it’s fine.

I agree with previous posters – wear the ring for 4 weeks instead of 3. I would do this do this some time soon, and not wait until that month or the month before. I did this a few times myself to move my cycle to the perfect spot. I would also recommend not wearing them back to back, for me that causes breakthrough bleeding and I end up with a period anyways. But by stretching the time out on the nuvaring, I was able to move the cycle instead of trying to skip it.

Do what Future_MrsB says. If you just skip a period or two now, you won’t need to skip it later and risk breakthrough bleeding and stuff.

Yes you can put in a new one and skip your period but you probably don’t want to do it the cycle of your wedding for fear of spotting. I have skipped my period on Nuvaring for 2 years now. I use it for 4 weeks and then switch it and it has been fine.

Ha, i just took my ring out yesterday, wish I would have asked the question last week!
But thank you all and I will definetly do the 4 week routine now to get it all squared away before hand

@BrookieCookie9: I’ve been on Nuva Ring for 3 years also and my doctor told me it’s perfectly fine to skip periods. I put the ring in on the 1st, take it out on the 31st (or 30th) and stick a new one in the 31st. I rarely ever have spotting, but it can happen.
As a matter of fact, I only “let” myself have 1 period a year! I marched into my doctor’s office a couple of years ago and told him I didn’t want to have periods anymore so he said Ok, I didn’t have to. I’m perfectly fine. Having to get your period every single month is a complete myth. I’ve had 3 seperate gyno’s tell me that. Most women are trained to think they have to have a period every month, but that is simply not true. In fact, depending on who you talk to, some doctors think it’s even healthier to skip periods for periods of time.
I love the freedom of only getting a period once a year (MAYBE twice) but a couple of my girlfriends think it’s soooo weird and would never even try it. But to each their own.
For your wedding, as soon as you take the ring out, put another one right in and skip your period for the month. I’d bring tampon lights or panty liners or whatever you use as a backup since you might have some spotting. 🙂
