@lilbluebird:  I followed the story to this link: http://www.katu.com/news/local/A-Girl-Scout-hoax-that-cost-24K-198532751.html which says

A troop parent says a co-worker approached her to set up a large  corporate order with a Hillsboro company.  The parent says she then  exchanged many e-mails with someone claiming to be from the company.   But when it was time to collect the money, she says she found out it was  fake, and the co-worker confessed to the hoax. “

I hope this cow-worker gets sued for $24000 and/or charged with fraud and/or loses their job. Disgusting!

Wouldn’t the Girl Scouts have a head office as such? Order this large should have gone through them. His whole story sounds fake.

Still better than to think of someone eating that many of those cookies. So unhealthy!

I don’t think this joke is that mean. I’m not really into pranks but this doesn’t seem like the worst.

@joya_aspera:  Getting an organisation to waste $24000 – I call that very mean.

@joya_aspera:  It cost the organization a lot of money because the Girl Scouts filled the order but didn’t get paid for it.

That’s annoying, but those cookies probably have a long shelf life, don’t they? They’re not organic or anything right?

Maybe it’s largely that I don’t feel that much empathy to most large organizations because I usually think they are corrupt and extremely rich. If someone did it to a family business, I would be upset.

If Girl Scouts does end up having to throw out thousands of dollars worth of cookies (I think they will sell every one of them, but I hope they would at least donate them to the homeless/poor rather than throw them out), and is not corrupt, then I would feel bad. I guess I just don’t assume those things.

That is 6,000 boxes.  My daughter is a Junior Girl Scout, and I know for an order that big I would have required money up front.
