Hey there! i live in Christchurch πŸ˜€ best city ever – even after the quakes!!!! id say either the George Hotel (opposite Hagley Park and just down from the Botanical Gardens and where the Art Centre used to be)and close to town, it is really nice,
are you hiring a car? Clearwater resort is gorgeous but a while from town.

and i know, the george is so expensive, Chateau on the Park is ok, you’d either cut through Hagley Park or catch a bus into town. there isnt many hotels/motels central anymore πŸ™ but google might be able to help πŸ˜€

The Ibis hotel opened not long ago and is in the city! dont know how much, its across the road from container mall! you would even be able to see the ruined cathedral if you get the back of the hotel. theres a few others going up but not finished yet.. oh and maybe search the heritage hotel, now that the cordon has gone back a bit they might have re opened??

I live in Christchurch so had a few ideas πŸ™‚

About 45 minutes away is Akaroa, which was a volcanic crater now a harbour, that has stunning scenery and is half French, half English and has some cute shops and restaurants and old villas and buildings. You can go on a harbour cruise to see the penguins and dolphins and there are lots of nice walks around – I’m not morbid, but the cemetery there was actually really interesting and definitely worth walking to and checking out!

There are tours and shuttles that go there like http://www.akaroashuttle.co.nz/

I would spend the day out there and the other day check out the botanic gardens, hagley park, container mall, etc.

Also a list of whats going on in town, this is a good reference http://bethere.co.nz/

I also wanted to remind you too that it is Fall here so it will be on the cold side, and definitely bring a rain jacket!

Stay at cheatau on the park or the George. Make sure you go to the gondola as that is now open again and have lunch up there, would be the perfect place to propose. There is the gardens which is lovely and the museum there is also punting on the Avon. You could do the gardens the punting museumalls the new mall in a day easily and then the next day you could do the gondola forna look and  visit Littleton and go to she chocolate for lunch it’s amazing!!! Littleton is a beautiful town and so is summer which that is close to also if you like the beach.
