Please don’t hate me for saying this but JEEPERS that thing is ugly! Gas mileage is always important, though.

What does HHR stand for? Does it have a good safety record? What safety features does it have?

We’re thinking about getting an estate car (I think you call them station wagons) in the future but at the moment we have a VW Bora/Jetta (name varies).

I’m afraid that I’m not a great fan of American cars. I’d always go for German or Japanese ones over them (or British and Italian sports cars, although my fiance disagrees with me on that point). Over here, American cars have a very bad reputation for handling (they don’t do corners).

I did look up some of the specs for it. To me 29mpg is really poor mileage per gallon, but fuel’s much more expensive here and most people have much smaller cars than in the US. It’s a very different culture here.

My FH’s been in a few car crashes and owes his ability to walk to how well modern VWs are built, so he’s a stickler for build quality. Safety record is one of the first things we check out when looking for a new car (my mum looks for the free tax band).

@AmeliaBedelia: Why is a small car funny?

My dad tells a great story of driving a BMW across the States for a friend and scaring hitchhikers with the speed at which he was taking corners. I don’t tell it well.

Hehe, I drove one of these cars as a rental for a roadtrip. They remind me of a submarine, with the windows so small and so much “metal” surrounding them.

I dont think theyre ugly though! And good safety is #1

@AmeliaBedelia: I saw the funniest thing recently! A Smart car (the teensy one, not the ForFour) as a police car!

@AmeliaBedelia: One of my friends used to drive a Mini (the original ones, not the massive BMW version) from the back seat. He was 6’6″ and had to have the front seats removed to get in.

@AmeliaBedelia: My friend with lots of dogs has a Mercedes A Class that the dogs seem to like.
