I’ve had a pretty common thyroid condition for the last few years. Unrelated to my condition (I thought…) I also developed a serious coffee and egg craving in the same period. I would drink multiple cups of coffee a day, and often would eat at least 1 to 2 eggs per day.
However, when my thyroid levels went out of whack recently, I got frustrated and decided to do a bit more research into what I could be doing (other than religiously taking my medication) to help myself out. This lead me to start taking a supplement of Selenium, which is a mineral that has been shown in at least 1 clinical study to slow or reverse sub-clinical hypothyroidism. Turns out, eggs also have a large amount of selenium.
When I went back to my doctor for testing, he was SHOCKED at how much my levels have improved–like, he did a straight double-take when he saw my results. I’m closer to hyperthyroidism than I am to hypo right now, which is crazy for me. However, in the last few weeks I’ve noticed that my egg cravings are gone! I honestly get a little grossed out when I think of eating eggs now–not to say I don’t, but it’s weird! I imagine it may be my body trying to tell me “enough Selenium!” Also, my coffee addiction is gone, though I have no explanation for that one.
Anyone else notice anything like this with their bodies? I’m wondering if I’m just making it all up in my head, hahah.
