A discussion while out eating with friends over the weekend is what prompted this thread. This isn’t meant to offend anyone who loves a certain “look” for a man, but does anyone out there just want a man to look like a man? No skinny jeans. No tanning beds or spray tans. A little dirt under their fingernails. You know, manly men?
We were sitting outside eating dinner and walking by were just group after group of guys who just…. Looked more put together and pretty than most women I see! There’s nothing wrong with that, but I can’t seem to get on board with men in nerd glasses, skinny jeans, tank tops or anything that looks like we could essentially share a wardrobe. I must be in the minority, because obviously these men have girlfriends/wives/ fiancés/ eff buddies…
Anyone else out there just like a scruffy, hairy faced, lumberjack looking, beer gutted ( maybe—gotta love them , too!) man?!
Poll for fun.

@Mrs_Amanda: ….I like em manly….the more put together, image conscious man tends to carry himself with a delicate and sensitive demeanor…I feel like I would break him sooner or later….so here’s one lady cheering for her beardy, muscle bound, calloused hands having man!

I like manly men as well BUT I like them to be well groomed all the same. Spray tanning, waxing all that…that’s a little much. But I wouldn’t mind if FH went for a manicure…his nails/cuticles are absolutely brutal and seeing as he does wear a suit every day I feel like his hands should be a little more cared for.

I like the other type of manly man, muscular, clean cut, well dressed. A man who can throw me over his shoulder without a problem and cares how he looks.
I don’t mind the flannel and beads at all, just not my first choice.
I couldn’t be with a guy who wore skinny jeans and fake baked.

@Mrs_Amanda: I agree to a point, although if a man has a beard I am definitely a proponent of keeping it neatly trimmed – but I am NOT down for ‘designer stubble’! Either grow a beard or don’t, stubble is scratchy. And if a man wears skinny jeans I’m sorry but I immediately assume that means he doesn’t have much going on underneath them and I am not interested.
That said, if my manly man can also rock a well-cut suit and scrub up when the time comes, that’s always a bonus!

@Mrs_Amanda: My Fiance is a big, strong man with huge calloused hands, a scruffy face, and he is also able to get ready in 10 minutes. I am not into the metrosexual look at all. I like a man to be a man in my traditional sense of the word. I don’t want to date a guy who is prettier than I am, or who is skinnier than I am 😛

my man is a very manly man, waxing, skinny pants, tans, ect are all no nos in his opinion.
NO MAN SHOULD WEAR SKINNY PANTS. SOME WOMEN ALSO SHOULD NOT WEAR THOSE. lol and jeggings are another fashion thing i will never understand

Hell to the yes! men are getting too feminine these days! Jeans tighter than mine! I love a man that is manly, strong, confident and not overly conscious about his appearance. there is a difference between well-groomed and Shaving every hair on your body!

I wonder if it’s a generation thing? I personally love my guy to be big, burly and a bit rough around the edges, but I’m in my 30s. I’ve noticed that my friends’ younger siblings (early 20s) tend to like the “prettier” guys.

I love my manly man. He has a beard that would put Peter Griffin’s bird nest to shame. Think Duck Dynasty! Dread locks down to his lower back, calloused hands from working construction, and a big hairy chest. He is the epitome of a man and I love every inch of his hairy manly body. 🙂 However, he showers regularly and washes his hair once a week, no smelly dreads are allowed! Also, I prefer manscaped down there(TMI) which he is all to happy to accomodate. lol If a man looks more feminine than me, I just can’t find him attractive. Just my preference though.

I prefer the sterotypical manly man. I LOVE the rugged outdoor look. Also, I am most definitely not a delicate lady – I rock climb, mountain climb, backpack, play/watch sports (cannot wait for football season!), and generally love being outside. I don’t spend a ton of time on my looks. So I need a guy that can keep up with me and has the same sort of value system. Skinny jeans and tank tops are not appropriate hiking gear. And I need a man that I can tackle without breaking.

I’m in two minds. I like people to look clean and well turned out, I like a man in a suit, and dirt under fingernails is a huge no-no… this is why I cut mine super short… I can’t stand dirty nails.
I also have nothing against nerd glasses, or that “put together” geek chic kind of look. I don’t like skinny jeans on men or women, however, and I think tanning beds are daft for men and women as well. Basically, I’m not into that “fake” look for either gender. It’s too try hard and shallow.
That said, I’m not really terribly fussy about looks in general.

I’m not a fan of tanning, waxing, etc. on men.
I still like some grooming though. The dirt under the fingernails…I would not find that attractive! No on the skinny pants as well.
But I LOVE beards and scruffy faces on men. Some can’t pull it off, but the ones that can…OOOOooOOOooOhhhh MY!
Fiance has a beard but he keeps it pretty trim!

@Birdee106: +1000000 exactly!!! I like a guy who can dress himself so he’s not too put together, but he knows what not to do! I definitely need a guy whose size makes me feel protected…I’m 5’1″ & Fiance is almost 6′ and muscular, definitely could throw down if he had to hahahaha…I appreciate someone who fixes a unibrow, but not someone whose eyebrows make me feel like I need to tweeze my own. One thing that I adore is good jeans on a man…JC Penney or Wal-Mart jeans need not apply haha….I love FI’s tushy in his Seven for all Mankind or his Lucky Brand jeans 🙂
ETA-As far as manscaping, I do not like any kind of back hair whatsoever…blech! I don’t mind a little fuzz on the chest, but overly hairy is not cool with me.

@BushelAndAPeck: yeah my husband looks like an extra on Duck Dynasty right now. His beard is in full fall swing already.
