I go to a hair salon for students cause it’s pretty cheap and in 3 years they’ve never messed up my hair. So last weekend I went to get my hair highlighted for the summer – I spent 7 hours there and it turned out wrong twice! They had to color my hair to its normal color (roots had grown out), which is a nice auburn brown. Then I wanted to get reddish highlights put in (think Khloe Kardashian when she lightened her hair), so they bleached my hair in highlight areas, then tried to recover it with the reddish color.
Didn’t work. Twice.
I took a shower the next day and watched the red go down the drain… stepped out and I had blonde highlights all over again! I think their policy is that if I’m unhappy they’ll try to fix it within a week free of charge, but now my hair seems mildly damaged from all the chemicals and I’m worried it won’t work again but recoloring will ruin my hair. Anyone have experience with this? Should I just stay blonde until I go back for root touchups (about 5 weeks) and hope it works then/my hair is in better shape? Assuming of course that they’ll waive the fee for next time…
For what it’s worth, the blonde doesn’t look horrible and my husband seems to like it. It just wasn’t what I paid for and I’m a little disgruntled 🙁

@MrsWrangler: Dont touch it for a while!! I would call them and tell them they messed up! I would be mad as this has happened to me just by going to a choc.brown. I was sooo mad. He bleached my hair under in foils, like random pieces then turned my hair I shit you not Strawberry shortcake blonde!!!! I even brought my own personal pic and wanted one solid color!( BROWN) I was soooo pissed and he would not fix it! I got my $$ back but spent 3 more hours doing a color correction that night! As for the blonde, they probably did not put the correct level of developer on it in the 1st place and the right shade of blonde. What color were you trying to go in the 1st place? Like shade?? And why the hell would they bleach OVER just bleached hair?? THat is nuts and so risky to do. Bleach over bleach that fast can break your hair off and make it so gross. I personally would go to a color specialist and ask them. Check some out where you live and go in person so they know what it looks like. You will need to let them know that you have 2-3 colors on your hair so they know what shade to use and cancel out the red undertones now. I would go with a beige blonde which is more cool/ashy. Thats what I use. Because I have natural red undertones and am cool skin toned. I have had my hair turned the ugliest blonde before and it was awful! I had to wait to fix it about 6 weeks though. I will tell you that you will not get what you want by going one time. It will probably take 3-4 times to achieve the blonde color you want.

@cherryblossomlove: Well, my hair wasn’t bleached to begin with – they color my hair darker (I’m naturally a dirty blonde), then this last time they bleached out the dark so they could go lighter. I was going for a light auburn/red for some mild contrast with my normal deeper brown … and now I’m blonde by accident, I didn’t want to be blonde! Sorry if I was unclear, I was pretty annoyed when I wrote it lol. Luckily it’s at least a wearable look and not strawberry shortcake, or I’d be furious!
I called them and while I think I’m going to stay blonde for the next 6 weeks at least (til my hair grows out), it is a teaching salon and I want them to know that what they did didn’t work so they don’t do it to someone else (and to get my money back!).

i once had my hair dyed bright red instead of brown at a $$$$ salon- dye was mislabeled. it was a FIASCO- it took three processes to lift the red, then we had to redye it brown and the brown was still reddish after. pluss all the proccessing meant that my hair was literally breaking off. the fancy salon had been a treat for finally growing my hair down to my bra strap (i normally box dye)- imagine my heartbreak when i needed to cut it to above my shoulders to save it!

@archer: Srriously. I like to think I’m not THAT vain, but I would be so so sad if my hair broke off. It’s long now and I’ve been growing it forever, I don’t want to start over!
