I’m car shopping and a Nissan Rogue is currently at the top of my list. I don’t know anyone that has one though… so I was hoping I could get some opinions 🙂 I am also open to ideas of other cars/suvs. Here are my must-haves:
AWD or 4WD (very hilly neighborhood that gets very snowy. I got stuck many times this winter in my front wheel drive car!)
Leather seats (I have a corgi… dog hair + cloth = nightmare)
Roomy back seat that folds flat
LOTS of storage space (I do art shows and need to transport tables and huge tupperware things of my photos)
Price around 20-22K new.
Note: I know that CRV is kind of the standard for smaller SUVs, but my understanding is that you can’t get leather seats unless you get the top of the line model and that is pretty $$

I’ve been looking at suvs too and the Rogue is at the top of my list as well as the Hyundai Santa Fe. I believe the Santa Fe is a little bigger, but about the same base price. Couldn’t tell you about the leather though…

i have one!! i bought a brand spankin’ new one in April of last year. ive really enjoyed it. i do have leather in mine (installed after market, but through the dealer) because i, too, have dogs. its great on gas mileage, nimble, and fun to drive. it comes with a great factory warranty, though i also purchased an extended warranty at the time. i do highly recommend them. they do NOT have powerful quick engines, mind you. i jokingly call it my golf cart…but thats the trade off for great gas mileage….i can normally get almost 400 miles on a tank (which is twice as much as the crossover SUV i had before that). i did tons of research before purchasing, as well. if yo uhave other questions, feel free to ask!
but i heartily give the Rogue 2 thumbs up!

we are also in the market for a small-ish SUV and are heavily considering the new Subaru Forester.

@kate169: I’ve heard good things about the sante fe too but I have a beef with hyundai right now bc I have an elantra and hate it haha
@elliej: so glad you like it! I know it is only 4 cyl but I’d rather the gas mileage than the pick-up-and-go

We bought a Toyota RAV 4 in June and love it. We considered the Nissan Rogue, but found it to be too small. We also considered the bigger Murano, but we were not impressed with the lack of visability out of the back window of both cars.
I LOVE our RAV 4! It’s 4WD and has a great door on the back that is great for loading things and getting a dog in and out. It’s 4 cylinders. The back seats move forward and back, recline and fold flat which is great. I would consider the RAV 4!

@CorgiTales: I dont have a Rogue but I have a Nissan Murano which is the slightly larger version and I LOVE IT! I was just showing it off to my coworker yesterday!! Even though it is a 2003 with 70,000+ miles on it it is still awesome – looks brand new and drives like it too! We bought it 3 months ago! It has AWD, leather seats, sunroof, seats that fold flat in the back to make the space HUGE and the trunk is very big to begin with! I dont know how much it is new but we got it for about 15K used. It is in great condition!

@jaylii9: Interesting… what year is it? I saw a 2008 rav4 at a used car lot and it seemed too small to me, while the rogue seemed bigger. I wonder if it got a little bit bigger in the newer versions?

@CorgiTales: Ours is a 2009. I test drove both the rogue and the RAV 4. To me the Rav4 seemed bigger, but I don’t know the true specs 🙂 I think you might have fun just taking some time to test drive a few small SUVs to get a feel for them! We also considered the Subaru Forester!
