My hair’s curly, not kinky curly, but about a 2C-3B type curl. I don’t like messing with it. Daily routine: Shower, use either leave-in conditioner, mousse, or a curl defining spray, pin back the sides, let air dry. Doing this leaves a pretty curl without too much effort. Simple and effective.
Now, I had a gift certificate for services at a salon nearby that I hadn’t gone to before for my birthday, so I figured I’d go there instead of my usual place just for a trim. They wash my hair, I tell her I’m growing my hair out and just want a trim to get rid of the straggly ends, she takes an inch off, exactly what I wanted.
Then she asks, “Do you want me to blow dry it straight?” “No, I don’t like it straight.” “Oh…um…so you don’t want me to style or straighten it?” “I don’t even own a straightener” “So, I guess that wouldn’t make sense then.” “Well, could you recommend a nice anti-frizzing/curl defining product?” “Oh! Yea,” Puts Paul Mitchell Twirl Around in it, I actually liked the way it looked when it dried, “So…that’s it?” “Yepp, looks good.” “Well, that was different,” I gave her a confused look, “most people who come in want it straightened.”
I’ve had my curl since I was born. I’ve fought with it and butchered it and finally learned how to make it look good (My mom has straight hair, didn’t know what to do with me). I like it the way it is. I’ll straighten it on occasion when I’m bored, but that’s very rare. A lot of hair dressers want to straighten it, though, or cut it to be straightened.
So, when you get your hair done, do you leave it curly or have it straightened? What about in your day to day?
