I have the dyson DC24 animal (ball) and it’s fantastic. I got it for my bridal shower about a year and a half ago but now they have some newer models. I really have no complaints about my vacuum but if I was buying a new one right now, I’d probably look into the newer models just to see if the updated features are worth it. I definitely suggest going with a ball vac, though. I’ve used the uprights and they’re too bulky. Having the flexibility of the ball has made cleaning much easier.

I have a non animal dyson, the DC33.  And while it’s great, I have one short haired big dog that doesnt shed all that much (lab/greyhound/mastiff best guess mix), I have to empty the canister 2-3 times to get the entire house, and that’s just the carpets.  I get the hardwoods with the central vac.  So my only tip is to get one with as big a canister as possible, unless you dont mind stopping to empty it a few times.  This one is also freaking heavy to me (18 lbs).  I hate lugging it up and down stairs.

I have one large dog and the DC 23 canister. I love it! I have lots of hardwood/lino and I think the canister works better than upright for that. I use the carpet attachment on her big dog beds and it works amazing! If you have only carpet and prefer not to drag the canister around go for the upright but if you have bare floor get the canister!!

@Ms.Sugarsnap:

I forgot to add that if you’re planning on using the grooming attachment you have to get the upright. It’s not made for the canister, which we didn’t know til after we bought it!. You could probly jamb it on there but it would be awkward to use!
