It really depends on where you live, what kind of car you have, and what kind of coverage you need. I would google “auto insurance” and just get some price quotes from different companies. I currently have Geico and have loved their service. They have been quick to respond when I need it and I can do everything online. Are you living with your FI? If you are you might be able to get on his policy and get a discount for multiple drivers and multiple cars.

ETA: Oh yeah, and I know for California if you have a new car that is leased or financed you have to have full coverage. But I am not sure how it is in other states.

It really does depend on a lot of things.  I was going to buy a car from my cousin, he paid $50/month to insure it (1986 Buick) but for me to insure the same car the cheapest quote I could find was for $150/month.  For the car that I have now (2004 Hyundai Tiburon) I pay $155/month because I’m on my mom’s insurance, to switch it to my name it would be $400/month.  It changes A LOT depending on your age/location/type of car/driving history.

@MrsPinkPeony: I know if you go to esurance it will give you a full quote.

Also insurance varies by vehicle, driving record, location, etc.

I have state farm and love it!  They’ve been great.

@MissBoPeep:  That’s very high.  Does your state have high premiums?

Also, do you have renter’s or homeowner’s insurance?  I would check out those first.  Oh and if you work for a well known company, sometimes they’ll give you a company favored discount.

Oh I see, my sister did that twice.  Yeah, my dad was very upset but he paid out of pocket so that it wouldn’t affect his premiums.

I don’t know how useful this would be, since I am in Canada and both Fiance and I are on the insurance… but we pay 135/month for our 2010 Kia Rio5.
