I am about to lose my mind! My computer is being SO FREAKING SLOW. Especially the internet. I’m running AVG Virus scan…but any other suggestions to speed this up? My pages keep freezing and shutting down :-/
ETA : This was not mean to be in the beehive section. My apologies.

Running the virus scan can make your computer slower (while it scans). That may be part of the problem!
Do you have any software that’s auto-updating? On Windows machines, software will often update itself in the background without telling you, and it can eat up your bandwidth and kill your internet usage! I used that HATE that!

@ddw: It was definitely slow before I started the scan. The slowness prompted me to start the scan.
How do you stop that auto-updating!?

I know that you if you simply let your computer “sleep” in between times that you are using it, it will slow down how fast your computer goes.
Try closing all of the programs, shutting down the computer and let it sit for a few minutes before re-booting it.
Also try clearing out your cookies and making sure your trash can is empty.
If you have any prompts to update Internet Explorer or Firefox (not sure which one you use), make sure you update to the newest version and install any patches they recommend.
(I’m not super tech savvy, just thought I’d give you a few ideas. Fiance is the tech guy, I tell him I keep him around just because he pays for himself in computer fixing every year, hehe.)

@soon2bhis: it’s in your settings somewhere. I’m sorry, it’s been ages since I’ve owned a windows machine! I’m a Mac girl now.
Buying a mac is a quick fix for most of the problems you have on a pc 😉

Download this freeware program: CCleaner.
It will clean up your computer, clean your registry for you, and you can see what programs are in your startup queue and eliminate any that you want with a simple click!
It’s a really great piece of software!
I’d also recommend you schedule a weekly defrag for your hard drive as well. You can use Window’s system, and that should keep things running swiftly as well.
