@amazingbee:  We own a KB Home. You know, overall the buying process was smooth, and we really didn’t have too many glitches with them.  There was a small building glitch that resulted in them having to tear up our front patio (there was a hole in our crawl space and water was getting through) and redo the whole thing on their dime, but other than the 2 day inconvenience it caused, it didn’t really have any long term repercussions.  So yeah, if that’s the kind of red flags you’re looking for, then maybe not KB? 🙂  I mean, overall our house is still standing and we love it here, and I really love KB’s designs!

I believe I responded on your other post as well.

And I have been doing research on them and other builders and KB definately seems to have a lot more complaints floating around when googling neutral key works such as “reviews” .

There are 137 complaints for KB vs 13 for Toll Brothers vs 4 for Pulte for example on Consumer Affairs. This of course doesnt prove anything, but it would certainly make me vary weary of them.

Also, as I mentioned our real estate agent told us to steer clear of KB. We had toured a planned community with 4 builders. KB was one of them and she did not reccomend them.

@amazingbee:  We are in CA now and likely moving to FL.

Even with your own inspector, you could have problems. With any builder really, but read the complaints for KB. A lot of the complaints is about the warranty after they finish building. So if something doesnt work that the inspector doesnt see (he is not there for the actual building of it) then it seems they are hard to get them to fix items.

I dont think we are going with the new construction/planned community for a bunch of reasons. But if we did I would heed our real estate agents advice. She knows the community, the houses and the builders. Something I dont.

Of course that being said, I am sure each builder in each region/state has different reputations.

If the communities have HOAs, ask to se their minutes of the meetings. Problems with the builders/houses may come up in the minutes.
