(Closed) NWR: Do you self file or use a tax pro to do your taxes?

  • poll: How do you do your taxes?

I do them on my own the old fashioned way - on paper.

I use the Free- E-File federal option on a tax site.

I pay a small fee for a tax software or deluxe e-file option of a tax site.

    I pay a Tax - Pro - I get a rediculously good deal.

    I pay a Tax - Pro - It's expensive but worth it.

Here, there’s also the option of a free service if your income is under a certain amount.  My Dad did miine for probably longer than what I should have allowed, but he got some of my tuition credit when he did it.  Since then, DH and I have done them sitting down together using software.

@Kate0558:  I do my federal taxes online using Turbo Tax, then walk through most of the process for state taxes on Turbo Tax but actually file for free through the state.

@Kate0558:  I do my own taxes. My father taught me and he looks over them. I do my Fiance taxes since he has had a job, or I make him do them with me. 🙂  But I like that kind of stuff.

H used to do them the paper way.

I’ve done them with a free online service.

Now that we file together, we file with a free online service.

my grandma does mine every year. usually she picks up the $25 for the EZ form too. She’s got stage 4 lung cancer now and idk if she’ll be around to do mine this year. I hope so just bc I want her around longer but I also really hope she doesn’t choose to spend her dying days working =/

Dunno what we’ll do if she’s not here to do them though

I volunteer at a VITA site and I should do my own, but last year they were a little complicated (student half the year, new job, etc.) and one of the senior preparers helped me out.  I’ll do them myself this year, though, since they’ll be so straightforward.

Last year was my first year filing taxes in the states, previously my parent’s accountant did everyone in the family.  I used TurboTax, I don’t think I have a lot to deduct or anything at the moment.  Hopefully we will move back to Canada eventually, I have a lot of tax refunds I can use from my tuition (not sure how this works, but supposedly I can declare it even years later?) so may hire someone to deal with that if needed.

@Kate0558:  I voted that I use a Tax Pro for a good deal, but thats a lie. Fiance does them for free. Laughing

Turbo Tax! Though this year we got married and I sold my income property, so I think this year we’re going to pay someone to do them…

I’m a CPA so it’s shameful that I pay someone to do it, but my friend’s mom is a tax accountant so she does FI’s and my taxes.

My husband and I are both members of a credit union and they offer a pro tax filing service for a reasonable fee.

We use H&R Block. I used to do my own with Turbo Tax before we were married, but since my husband is in the military and can claim crazy things like “Boomer deductions” from technically “living” on a submarine for big chunks at a time, it is so much less confusing to just have someone else do it for us.
