    I’ve heard that things are really different in Canada, but I think the best way to start is to ask an employee at your favorite store what their coupon policy is. The extreme coupon people save the most by using store sales and coupons with doubled manufacturer coupons. When you see a coupon for a product that you normally buy, just keep it around (maybe in an accordion folder) until your store marks the item down.

    Personally, I save the most money by simply skipping most packaged products in the first place and keeping my focus on in-season (which usually means on sale) fruits and veggies.

    Yeah Canada doesn’t have nearly the amount of coupons that the USA does. I’ve tried to be a coupon-er but the most I can ever save is a couple of bucks. I do better with the Safeway Club Card or other cards like that.

    @michkarose:

    This show was unbelievable! FH still doesn’t understand how shopping like this is possible. We don’t have a store here that does it, because it all comes down to a store doubling a manufacturer’s coupon and the timing of the product going on sale. Amazing, I would love this, but not feasible where I live.

    I’d like to know when it’s coming on too! I’ve tried to catch this show 4 times and have missed every time.

    And in Canada they either put a restriction on the number of items each coupon counts towards or the number of coupons a person can use per day.. or both. They’ve pretty much made it so that isn’t possible here.

    Those folks are amazing, but I’d love to do it on a much smaller scale.  I don’t really have room (or the need) for hundreds of ketchup bottles, lol, etc.  I can understand the thrill of getting a great deal/freebies, but when you need a storage room just to keep all your stuff, I question if it’s still a good idea.  But it’s a fascinating show and makes me applaud their frugality.

    I coupon and I use the coupons from the mail and the newspaper.  I can save up to 50% if I keep up with it.

    My sister on the otherhand will buy $50 worth of groceries sometimes and she uses so many coupons where she gets money back!! I’ve seen this happen before.  The total was negative and the cashier got really confused.  She said she’s done that a few times and the manager gets angry with her, so she tries really hard not to do that again.  She said she tries to pay for a few bucks so it doesn’t go negative.

    What she does is she gets rain checks whenever something is on sale. Then waits til the coupon shows up in the mail so she can pair it up with a coupon. What is even better is when there are buy one get one coupons or grocery deals.  Because she can use two coupon for those two items, but really she is only paying for one. Yeah, it’s crazy how much she saves.

    I’m not as patient with cutting coupons and checking every store to see which coupon should be used at what store.  It takes a lot of time but I guess if I had the time, I would do it because she saved a ton!

    She actually cut back using coupons, now that she has money and no longer needs to save every penny.
