I knew someone growing up with that name, it was short for Brigitta. This was before Brita water filters were a thing. I usually hate unusual names, but I like this one.

MrsMellyBean :  I like the name- especially given that it’s related to Brighid and means “strength or exalted one.” I like names with good meanings and I love badass names for girls. (my son’s name means “chief” though, so I like badass names for everyone! 🙂 ).

I would use it, personally. As long as you and your husband are in agreement (and the dissent is something more than just “well there’s a water filter with the same name.”)

MrsMellyBean :  I have a book that uses that name and it doesn’t bother me there. But like others, my head goes straight to my water filter.

i had a friend whose stepmother’s name is Britta.

i don’t hate it but i don’t love it.  it is not something i would name my child, but that doesn’t really matter.

So my name is very similar to Britta and I can’t tell you how annoying it was to constantly be called “Brita Filter” as a kid.

Objectively, I think it’s a pretty name. Just too many negative associations for me lol.

I’m not worried about the bullying in elementary school, kids don’t know what water filters are anyway. I’m more worried that she’ll hand in her resume when she’s 25, and her boss thinks water filter.

I gotta jump on the bandwagon with this one lol! Sounds very “water filter-ish”

While I do think of the water filter, I think it’s otherwise a lovely name. What do you think of Brittany as an alternative? Not quite the same charm, but it’s similar. (ETA: just noticed you already responded to that suggestion, lol)

Frigga also has a similar charm, and is a variation of the name of Odin’s wife in Norse mythology…but perhaps too uncommon?
